General education classes will prepare you with a sound academic foundation in several disciplines, including English, math, science, history, language, communications, fine arts, physical education, and the National Service and Training Program (NSTP). This includes the Commission on Higher Education's (CHED) GE courses and MC's GE courses.MC students are required to take these courses regardless of the program they are taking. Most students take these courses in their first two years in college.

We are a leading advocate for the promotion of truth, justice, peace, women's rights, and the integrity of creation through our Miriam Advocacy Centers (MACs): Environmental Studies Institute (ESI), Center for Peace Education (CPE), and Women and Gender Institute (WAGI). Through the years, the MACs have contributed immensely to curriculum development, research and training, policy analysis and advocacy, community outreach, and networking. The Miriam College-Child Study Center (MC-CSC) is the early childhood education unit of Miriam College for children 2 to 5 years old. Our First Step, Nursery, and Kindergarten programs provide students with various developmentally appropriate activities that make them explore, investigate, discover, collaborate, create, and innovate. Through intentional teaching, they engage in meaningful and relevant activities that nurture them to become happy, confident, and lifelong learners.
The story of Miriam College dates back to 1926 when the Archbishop of Manila, then Reverend Michael O' Doherty, requested the Sisters of the Maryknoll Congregation in New York to initiate a teacher-training program for women in the Philippines. In an old remodeled Augustinian Convent in Malabon, Rizal, the Malabon Normal School was established. The school transferred sites several times until finally, in 1953, with its name officially changed to Maryknoll College, it laid down its permanent roots in Diliman (or Loyola Heights), Quezon City.
After Vatican II, the Maryknoll congregation began to evaluate its work, not only in the Philippines but worldwide, in the light of their original apostolate as a missionary order. In the 60s, the Maryknoll congregation saw the Filipino laity's readiness to continue the educational mission they had started. In 1977, the ownership and management of the school were turned over to lay administrators. Following the agreement, the name Maryknoll was to be changed to pave the way for the promotion of the school's unique identity, distinct although not disconnected from the identity of the Maryknoll Sisters. In 1989, after a series of consultations, Maryknoll College was re-named Miriam College.
