It is an inordinate honor and privilege to welcome you to King Edward Medical University, one of the premier, historical, and prestigious Indo-Pak sub-continent institution where excellence in medical education is nurtured, pursued, and celebrated since its inception in 1860. Among the seven affiliated teaching hospitals, Mayo Hospital is one of the hoariest tertiary care hospital established in 1871.

To serve Pakistan's health care needs by educating health care practitioners to the highest international standards and stimulating innovation through research. King Edward Medical University shall pursue the following goals:

The Educational Programs and their respective qualifications are arranged according to related Rules & Regulation by society and the job market to give due value to the qualifications. The educational levels at kemu are derived for graduate education from the decree 1992 of the "National Education Policy of Pakistan." The classification of postgraduate qualifications is based upon Pakistan Medical & Dental Council.
The original idea for establishing a medical college for undivided Punjab was placed before the Imperial Government in 1857, but shelved because of the 'War of Independence,' The need was so great that it was decided to make the beginning by establishing a Medical School in 1860. At that time, the only other Medical School in Indo-Pakistan Sub-Continent was situated in Calcutta. In August 1860, Dr. IB. Scriven of the General Hospital in Calcutta was invited to become the Principal of the proposed Lahore Medical School, which was to be the second such Institution in Indo Pakistan Sub-Continent.
