The University is organized into various departments and colleges that offer a wide range of programs: M.A., M.Sc., MBA, Ph.D., B.Sc. Engineering and Diplomas etc. Additionally, undergraduate courses and short-term courses are also offered. The University provides excellent facilities for its students. The students have access to highly qualified faculty, modern labs, and air-conditioned libraries. The students and faculty of this University also have access to the HEC's (Higher Education Commission) sponsored digital library. Through this digital library, students and faculty update their knowledge with the latest developments in their respective fields of study. In addition to it, the University, as a matter of policy, keeps reviewing its syllabuses. This is done to update our students with the contemporary issues related to their respective areas of studies. Very recently, we have taken ambitious steps to uplift this University further. One such step is to streamline the semester schedule. Another is the enrichment of laborites and libraries. To provide accommodation to the maximum number of students, the University has planned to build new hostels. International Conferences and Seminars will be held regularly. And, most important, we are going to link with universities of three other countries. The United States, Venezuela, and Nepal. Through this innovative partnership program, students of these three universities will be taught through videoconferencing. This attempts to create an atmosphere of mutual understanding among different cultures and countries to make this world healthier, safer, and more tolerant.
The University is located at a distance of 10 km from the city center. The main campus is spread over 960 acres of land. The University has a fleet of 28 buses and three coaches, which provides transport facilities to students and staff. The University started functioning in 1975 in rented buildings with eight departments. Presently, it has more than 51 departments/institutes/colleges. Out of its 619 faculty members, 389 hold doctoral degrees, and among its around 26659 students, half are female.

The University, through different phases, has made tremendous progress, but some recent developments are remarkable. To promote the activities of art and culture, the Multan College of Arts was established in 2003. To cater to the needs of the textile industry, which is a significant industry of the area, the University College of Textile Engineering was established in 2004. The University has also established three sub-campuses at Sahiwal, Layyah, and D.G. Khan to provide education facility at the doorsteps of the people as part of the government's policy. Steps have been taken to establish the University's linkages with the community and Industry. There has been a significant enhancement in students' enrollment. To ensure quality in academics and research, a Quality Enhancement Cell has been established. A large number of buildings are under construction. These buildings will provide better facilities for the students. The University has implemented a semester system in almost all the departments, and organizing international conferences and seminars have been a routine academic activity. A significant number of faculty members have been awarded post-doc research fellowships.
