The University of Shizuoka was founded in 1987 in Yada, Shizuoka City, where majestic Mt. Fuji can be seen. As Shizuoka Prefecture's highest learning institution, the University has been a center for advanced education and research and has contributed to the local and global community ever since then.

Thousands of people who graduated in the Shizuoka Prefectural University Corporation history have been active and out of the prefecture. From the Shizuoka Women's Pharmaceutical School as a source, the University has a history of women's higher education from the early stage. Also, there is a philosophy of the University that is proud of the people of Shizuoka prefecture.

From such a point of view, Shizuoka Prefecture is a very distinctive area. Mt.Fuji is Japan's largest active volcano with height and mountain size.

With the concerted efforts of five faculties and several graduate schools, junior colleges, and research institutes, the University of Shizuoka, managed by the Shizuoka Prefectural University Corporation, conducts educational research activities to establish itself as a "valuable university in which local citizens take pride."

    Our mission:

    • To strive for assiduous development
    • To promote excellence in education and high-level academic research
    • To maintain a learning environment centered on the high quality of academic life
    • To establish management structures that enhance its value
    • To be open to citizens as it collaborates with local communities

In the beautiful natural environment of Shizuoka prefecture, I hope that students will be able to enjoy their university life significantly and graduate as a person who can transmit the charm of Shizuoka prefecture to the world together with learning outcomes.

One of the unique aspects of the University is highly fruitful research in the area of health and longevity sciences. One of the most prominent examples is research into tea, which Shizuoka Prefecture is best known for.

To cultivate human resources that can enrich society in the coming years, we at the University of Shizuoka are committed to bringing together knowledge from all of our schools―Pharmaceutical Sciences, Food and Nutritional Sciences, International Relations, Management and Information, and Nursing―to provide superior educations and conduct research of high academic value.

Shizuoka Prefecture possesses the potential to achieve development globally, especially since Mt. Fuji was inscribed in 2013 on UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage list. We at the University are making concerted efforts to attract students and researchers from other countries to become a more potent force propelling international exchange between Shizuoka Prefecture and the rest of the world.
