St Catherine University

The campus of St. Catherine University and St. Catherine Junior College is located on the north side of Matsuyama City. It is nestled in a quiet, suburban community that lies along the Seto Inland Sea and looks out on picturesque fields and mountains.
The university is managed under the auspices of the Congregation of Religious Missionaries of St. Dominic. It is named after St. Catherine of Siena, who represents the values of devotion and dedication to instill in the students.
St. Catherine University was established in 1988 on the campus of St. Catherine Junior College, which had been established in 1966. Both the university and the junior college were established as higher education institutions for women, and they became co-educational in 2004.
The campus also houses St. Martin's Home, an intensive-care home for the aged, and a pre-school kindergarten attached to the junior college. There are two research institutes: The Research Institute of Humanity and Culture and The Institute for Christian Studies.
St. Catherine University joined the International Council of Universities of St. Thomas Aquinas (IC-USTA) in 2007. This organization promotes academic exchange between students, professors, and researchers in numerous universities on the five continents.
The center of Matsuyama City is about 30 minutes away from the campus. Regular train service is available. There are many shopping, entertainment and restaurant areas and famous sites, such as Dogo Onsen hot spring and Matsuyama Castle, to visit.
Matsuyama City has a convenient airport, with international connections, 15 minutes from the center of the city. Domestic flight connections can be made via Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and other cities. Or you can take the Bullet Train (Shinkansen) to Okayama and transfer to a train bound for Matsuyama. Matsuyama is also accessible from Hiroshima by ferry.
St. Catherine Educational Institution was founded by the Congregation of Religious Missionaries of St. Dominic. The junior college was established in 1966, and the university opened its doors in 1988. Our name is in honor of St. Catherine of Siena, one of the three women Doctors of the Church, who dedicated her life to charity and service to others. Students in the four-year university programs study social work, psychiatric social work, management, sociology, social awareness, caregiving skills, sports management, and, at the two-year junior college, early childhood education.
The mission of St. Catherine University can be summed up as "Amor et Veritas" (Love and Truth). This is a Christian university with a world vision, and the ideal of its education is educating students who can promote world peace and a community spirit. Love and truth reflect the spirit of the founding order of St. Dominic. The spirit of scholarship, the promotion of universal values, and the development of a high moral consciousness reflect the principles of St. Catherine of Siena.
The university motto is represented in words Sincerity, Strength, and Service. The emphasis of education at St. Catherine University is to direct our students towards these principles. Sincerity is a building block of society that allows people to abide mutually in trust and confidence together. Strength is needed for humanity's care and helps the individual face the distress of our surroundings and environment with a sound heart and sound health. Service represents all humanity's efforts to promote growth and spread peace from the people to the region and from the region to the civilization as a whole.
