Seitoku Gakuen was founded in 1933 to realize a "humanistic education" dedicated to the principle of the "spirit of harmony" promoted by the renowned statesman Prince Shotoku. The spirit of harmony encompasses the ideal of instructing young women in the morality and etiquette of a successfully socialized individual and future mother, nurturing compassion for others.
Ever since its founding, Seitoku Gakuen has sought to better society through devotion to young women's education and, in turn, advancing women's opportunities in society. Also, Seitoku aims to provide students with a solid curriculum emphasizing home education. This humanistic spirit is not something that changes with the times. We believe that its instruction is even more critical and even more in demand today, as the teaching of discipline, etiquette, and morality once done by parents, particularly mothers, is fading.
We believe that the "spirit of harmony" is an ideal catching on throughout the world in recent years. For this reason, Seitoku Gakuen is increasingly reaching out to the international community by making a concerted effort to accept exchange students from abroad. The time spent in the exceptional educational environment of Seitoku Gakuen is one in which students are supported to grow as women, their minds nurtured with ideas of harmony and leadership. Our fervent desire is to prepare skilled and knowledgeable young women, possessing a rich human spirit, who are independent members of society able to play essential roles in their families, in the community, and the world.
Seitoku Gakuen follows a "spirit of harmony" that is not influenced by the fashion of the times, nurturing the minds of young women to instill in them the compassion, decency, kindness, poise, and coordination of good mothers able to raise children, as well as play an active role on the world stage. This spirit of harmony is an essential part of coexisting in society and is the foundation of amicable relationships. The educational principles Seitoku Gakuen has adopted to put these ideas into practice include the three pillars of "courtesy," "intellectual development," and "hard work." These pillars are implemented throughout a continuous "humanistic education" program tailored to each educational stage, from kindergarten through higher education.
Seitoku Gakuen is a comprehensive educational institution, offering an educational program from kindergarten through graduate school. Our main campus is in Matsudo City, Chiba Prefecture, with numerous other locations in the Tokyo area. To encourage students to become women with individuality and independence, they must learn social rules, such as proper etiquette and distinguish between right and wrong. However, the kind of "humanistic education" that teaches sensitivity and respect cannot be accomplished overnight. It is achieved through perseverance, cultivated slowly from kindergarten through to higher education. That is why Seitoku Gakuen has established kindergartens and primary, junior high, and high schools as an integral part of its educational system. While each of these schools is independent, they all share the common goal of educating students in the "spirit of harmony," tailored to each learning stage.
In response to society's recent internationalization, we have also introduced new elements into the program designed to develop internationally sophisticated persons with the eagerness and flexibility to understand foreign cultures and play an active role on the world stage.
