Kobe Gakuin University was established in 1966 with Shigeki Mori as the first President. It initially offered a single course of study with 100 students in the Faculty of Nutrition, founded on the philosophy of "shine-aikokosei-poncho" (love of truth and respect for individuality). Today, 50 years later, the University has expanded to become the largest private University in Kobe City, with two distinctive campuses, ten faculties and seven graduate schools, and more than 11,000 students. About 80,000 students have graduated from the University of completed graduate school courses.

This charter is implemented in order to achieve consistent development and improvement of Kobe Gakuin University. Every one of us at this moment vows to uphold it with integrity and responsibility.

"Shinra-Aiko Kosei-poncho" ( love of truth and respect for individuality)Through learning and the pursuit of knowledge, we aim to experience the joy that comes with acquiring the wisdom offered by universal academic systems and to discover the individualities of ourselves and others and develop respect for both in the process.

In 2012, Kobe Gakuin Educational Foundation celebrated the 100th anniversary of its founding. In 2016, the University marked the 50th anniversary of its founding. Reflecting our belief that the timing of these 100 years and 50 year anniversaries provides us with an excellent opportunity for Kobe Gakuin University to transform itself, we announced the Kobe Gakuin 100-Year Declaration. We carried out a mid-term action plan for over five years. During AY2018, we will develop a second mid-term action plan and transition to implementing that new five-year plan. Also, we took advantage of the 50th anniversary of the University's founding to announce a vision for its next 50 years. That vision articulates the issues that the University needs to address, and we have begun to do so in a steady manner.

As part of that effort, the Faculty of Psychology, which will offer a curriculum designed to prepare students to earn Japan's new certified psychologist qualification, will start accepting students on Arise Campus as the University's 10th undergraduate faculty. We will also start to offer credits under our inter-professional education (IPE) program, a workshop-based offering where students of the four faculties and six departments related to medicine, health, and social welfare learn about the requirements (and qualifications) of each other's disciplines to facilitate collaboration.

Going forward, we believe it must be the mission of Kobe Gakuin University to offer an education based on its founding philosophy so that students can experience their growth and go forth into society with a sense of self-confidence, and to provide a range of support so that all students can achieve their dreams and goals. We must also strive to become an institution that will continue to operate into the indefinite future, prized for its essential role in society, by enhancing our education, research, and social outreach programs.

Our goals for Kobe Gakuin University:
