Dokkyo University, an institution originating out of the Doitsu-gaku Kyokai Gakko （German Studies Association School c.1883）, was founded in 1964 by Dr. Teiyu Amano. Dr. Amano was a philosopher and an educator, and he firmly believed in the principle that a university is an institution where the character is developed through learning.
In order to become a university open to the world, Dokkyo University continually strives to promote internationalization. Our university sends countless students to overseas institutions while accepting exchange students from universities throughout the world each year. We are proud of our academic exchange agreements with 46 universities in 15 countries as of this writing. We provide support for our exchange students in numerous ways, including our scholarship programs, to help them interact with others in the globalized world.
Our unified campus, one of our university's unique features, provides the latest in educational facilities that are both safe and comfortable. We aim to maintain a balance between people, nature, and the buildings that make up this campus to provide the best possible atmosphere for learning both inside and outside of the classroom.
We nurture and send out mature human beings with views and abilities recognized in international society and will be needed by the future. In this time of fluctuation in Japanese society and the rest of the world, how we live as human beings is being called into question.
It is fair to say that whether or not our relationships with others, with whom we live and will live, will be filled with bright hopes or dark difficulties depends on us human beings and our choices for the future. How should a "good human being" live to contribute widely to society and the world, instead of just satisfying their wishes and desires? This is what Dr. Amano Teiyu, the founder of Dokkyo University, was deeply interested in. A "good human being" is a person with good intentions, well-educated and affluent in spirit, who has acquired substantial knowledge and expert techniques to turn their intentions into a tangible form. At least, it is a person who wishes to be like this and never stops trying to achieve the goal.
