Please pay attention: Acceptance for a Master's program covers a successful qualifying review of the documents submitted, i.e., your documents are formally reviewed, and if needed, you are invited to an oral examination. Details of this procedure are communicated during the application procedure or together with the admission letter. Please read about your future program's specific requirements, which are stated in appendix 3 of the study rules of your program. Link to the rules of our study programs.
If you are admitted to the Master's degree program, you must take an aptitude test (depending on the Masters's degree course you applied for) after you arrived in Germany. In case you fail the aptitude test, you have an opportunity to prepare for this test within the Academic Preparation Course framework.
If you need to take DSH or/and additional subject examinations test before the Study program at TU Ilmenau begins, you will be provided with an admission letter together with an Invitation to attend Academic Preparation Course. To be accepted to the Academic Preparation Course, you must have a B2 level of the German language.
You should apply for your studies right on time! The visa formalities, which have to be considered by almost all applicants, might require about three months. Therefore the deadlines indicated here, namely 15th January for Sommer Semester and 15th July for Winter Semester, are relevant only for those already in Germany or do not need Visum. Hence, we kindly recommend applying until the middle of May for the winter semester and the middle of November for the Summer Semester.
The applications for Master's degree programs that are considered by the respective faculty's selection committee, information on the admission become available at the end of March and at the end of September (half a year before the planned start of the Master's degree course). Only in this case, we can guarantee enough time for you to fulfill all formalities.
To be admitted to first degree studies in Germany, you need to be able to present a school-leaving certificate that would also have enabled you to study in your home country. For this reason, we can ask you to turn in a certificate of your home country's university admission exam together with your application or proof that you have already studied successfully for one or two years. Our evaluation of certificates is based on the database "cabin "(only in German), a service offered by the Kultusministerkonferenz of the Federal Republic of Germany. This database is accessible to everyone. You can check whether your secondary school- certificate enables you to study in Germany.
All first degree courses are solely taught and tested in German. When applying, you should already have a German language knowledge certificate with a B2 level, since our German preparatory courses start at this level. Provided you continue learning German, will make sure that you easily comply with German immigration law. According to its introductory language course should not exceed one year. The longer or the most extended language course duration of two years will be, in that case, granted by a foreign authority (Auslandebehörde) if you should attend preparatory college.
In case you have already studied in your home country. You would like to continue your studies in the same subject area; you can make an application for recognition of your academic achievements. Nevertheless, this application will be handled only after matriculation.
