Reutlingen University is one of Germany's leading universities, offering international academic programs with close ties to industry and commerce. We have around 5800 students spread across five different schools on our campus: Applied Chemistry, Engineering, ESB Business School, Informatics, and Textiles & Design.

Professors, Visiting Lecturers, and administrative and technical staff guide these talented young people along their academic path.

We offer 43-degree programs at the Bachelor's and Master's level, in which we train the top executives of the future. At the same time, we need to support our students' personal development and become specialists and managers for whom social responsibility is second nature.

For many years, we have regularly been positioned at or near the top of numerous university league tables, reflecting our programs' high standards and the top-class academic education they provide. Internationally respected agencies accredit all our degree programs.

Cooperation with the business world, close contacts to industry, and collaborative teaching and research networks ensure that we offer the best possible combination of theory and practice.

What is more, Reutlingen University wishes to promote the principle of life-long learning. The "Knowledge Foundation" offers professional people the chance to attend high-caliber continuing education courses.

For many years Reutlingen University has regularly been placed at or near the national academic league tables. Moreover, surveys undertaken among corporate HR managers confirm our graduates' excellent quality, reinforcing our belief in the programs we offer.

Close contacts with business: Many of our professors have extensive experience in industry and commerce, which ensures that what our students learn has a clear, practical orientation. Our students can get to know their future employers early on, for example, at career fairs.

The international dimension: Reutlingen University cooperates with more than 140 partner universities worldwide. Twenty percent of our student body has an international background and comes from 90 different countries. In return, every semester, around 600 Reutlingen students go abroad.

Research: Reutlingen University is a successful partner in applied research and development. Our central academic facility, the Reutlingen Research Institute, actively includes students in research projects and is the initial contact for organizing research projects.

Campus – Lecture rooms, Cafeteria, University Library, Sports Hall, and Student Residences: Everything is close at hand on our campus. Here in Reutlingen's suburb of Hohbuch, at the edge of town, we are near to the green countryside but still very close to the action: Stuttgart, Tübingen and the hills of the Swabian Alb are all within easy reach.

We train the high achievers of the future – thanks to their top-class academic and personal qualifications, they are highly employable, both in Germany and internationally.

We shape the future of society – through first-class, demand-oriented teaching, and research. We are a significant and visible point of contact for our industry partners – for applied research, development, and life-long learning.

Reutlingen University was founded in 1855 as a College of Weaving and Textiles. It was to be an institute for textile teaching and research, founded on the local industry's initiative, the town of Reutlingen, and the Kingdom of Württemberg, and it has remained true to its roots right up to the present day. Reutlingen University still offers facilities for spinning, weaving, and knitting.

Our unique research building, covering 7,700 square meters, accommodates the extensive workshops for textile teaching and experimentation. The large laboratories for the spinning of cotton, worsted and woolen yarns, weaving, weft and warp knitting, and textile finishing are located in this building.

For the years, the name of the institution was changed to State Engineering College, which then developed into a University of Applied Sciences, and new areas of teaching were opened up: Engineering, Business Administration, Chemistry and Informatics extended the range of subjects offered, forming the foundation for today's Reutlingen University and its five Schools.

Throughout its history, one of the defining characteristics of the University has always been its international dimension. While in the early days there were just a small number of engineers who came to Reutlingen from other countries, nowadays the University is an international educational institution, with more than 80 nationalities living and learning together on a single campus.

Since 2010, Reutlingen University has held the Certificate for "Family-friendly Universities", making clear that it attaches great importance to family-friendly policies. Combining work or studies with the demands of a fulfilled family life involves many challenges. This applies to bringing up children as well as caring for relatives or friends.

Reutlingen University helps students and employees to combine these very different worlds satisfactorily. To this end, some measures have already been implemented, for example, the Campus Children's Day Care Centre, flexible working hours, and a play corner in the Students Office. Various other steps to improve the situation for families are being planned.

Whether through its Day Care Centre, Campus TigeR, or babysitter exchange – the University is keen to make it easier for parents to combine family and work or study and has various child care facilities for this purpose.

The children of University employees can take part regularly in the varied holiday programs organized by the Campus Holiday Project and the Campus Academy here at the University.

The Family Services Centre is the first point of contact for mothers and fathers at the University. It provides information, contacts, and advice on combining family responsibilities and study or work.
