Paris University 13 is one of the thirteen universities created after the reorganization of the old Sorbonne after 1968.
It now has 24,000 students spread across five campuses pursuing degrees or continuing education. Truly multi-disciplinary, Paris University 13 is a major center of teaching and research in the north of Paris.

It is a legal person with pedagogical, scientific, administrative, and financial autonomy. It determines its policy within the regulations and laws framework and follows its contractual obligations, particularly with the state.
The fundamental mission of Paris University 13 is to improve the scientific, cultural, and professional knowledge of all through initial and continuing education and the development of research, which is its essential foundation.
The General Administration is responsible for managing the university under the authority of the President of the university. The General Manager is responsible for the administration and management of the university. As an ex officio member of the Office and an assistant to the President during all committees, he plays a valuable role in implementing the President's policy, particularly human resources management. He also represents the university's administration externally and is often invited to participate in meetings and working groups within academia and the government.
The Galilée Institute offers courses that lead to European scientific degrees at Licence, Masters, and Ph.D. level. Its engineering degree (four specializations), which the Commission des Titres d'Ingénieur (a national committee that oversees engineers' training), is issued each year to about 100 students. Its doctoral school has over 250 students who work in a strongly interdisciplinary way.
