Anglo-American University, a private university in Prague, has long been attracting learners from around the world to earn a globally recognized degree, gain general knowledge, and build successful careers. Students at AAU learn in small, interactive classes. This guarantees that educators can adopt a personalized approach to each student and deliver high-quality instruction. A focus on in-class discussions and projects, as opposed to routine memorization, further allows our students to actively develop the skills that will help them own their futures.
AAU offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs in five Schools of Study: School of Business Administration, School of Humanities & Social Sciences, School of International Relations & Diplomacy, School of Journalism, and the John H. Carey II School of Law.
We offer courses in a wide range of academic disciplines, taught by a diverse and international faculty. Our instructors aim to not only educate but also inspire students to challenge their current understanding of the world.
Our courses provide students with the appropriate tools for professional life in the 21st century and give graduates the means to engage in lifelong learning and development. Anglo-American University cultivates a global learning environment, promoting analytical, creative, and practical thinking in the pursuit of academic excellence.
Comprised of over 70 nationalities, the student body of AAU is very multicultural. The most significant proportion of students come from the United States (22%), the Czech Republic (20%) and Russia (12%), as well as many from the various post-Soviet nations (app. 20%) such as Kazakhstan, Georgia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and Belarus. As far as Western Europe, our students predominantly come from France, Germany, and Italy. The most significant student representation from East Asia is Vietnamese and South Korean. It is this eclectic mix that has helped to create a global community of which we at AAU are very proud of. The belief at AAU is that through improved cross-cultural communication, the world's challenges can be better understood, leading to more effective solutions.
AAU's faculty is made up of over 20 different nationalities. This is primarily occupied by Czech, American, and British lecturers and includes Israeli, German, Australian, French, Scandinavian, and many more.
At over 3.6 million Czech Crowns of tuition fees subsidized in the 2015/16 semester, AAU's scholarship program continues to grow, providing financial benefits to over 10% of our degree-seeking students.
AAU currently runs 12 BA and 3 MA programs in its five Schools of Study. Also, Schools of Business Administration offers an MBA program in cooperation with Chapman University, CA, USA, and John H. Carey II School of Law offers LLM by University of London International Programmes.
AAU is comprised of five schools Journalism, Humanities & Social Science, Law, International Relations & Diplomacy, and Business Administration. The School of Business Administration currently has the highest enrollment of all schools, with 46% of degree-seeking students. With 24%, it is the School of International Relations, followed by the School of Humanities & Social Science at 17%. The School of Journalism has approximately 10%, and the School of Law makes up 3% of degree-seeking students. Overall, there were 990 students enrolled at AAU in Spring 2016.
The rates of enrollment are reflected in the number of classes offered by each School. In Spring 2016, AAU ran 216 courses, with Schools of Business Administration and Social Sciences having the most significant number of courses (62 and 90 respectively).
Class size at AAU is capped at 25 for the majority of courses, and selected courses have even smaller limits (20 or 15 students). Average enrollment in our classes is under 18 students per class, enabling the active engagement of students.
If you are a student of one of our partner universities, and you would like to come to AAU, in the first instance, please go and talk to the Exchange Coordinator or the International Office at your home university, who will be able to advise you about your options. Please note that you must first be selected and nominated for the exchange by your home university because the number of places for each exchange is limited. Only after that can, you can apply to AAU.
Please also remember that the deadline and the conditions you have to meet to gain the nomination are set by your home university, not by AAU, so your first stop really must be your own International Office.
Students accepted through our official exchange programs (both Erasmus and non- Erasmus) do not pay tuition at AAU, though you may still be required to pay various small administrative charges (copying, library fees, etc.) As an exchange student, you will be allowed to register for any available class for which you are suitably qualified, subject to considerations of space, and subject to your home university's approval. In principle, all classes offered at AAU are available to Erasmus/exchange students, except for a small range of LLB and MBA classes, which are open only to our degree-seeking students. Students who are interested in exploring the culture of the Czech Republic may also take optional classes of Czech as a foreign language. Visa and insurance requirements are the same as for our other students: see below for further.
