Sustainable health research is the central theme at the Medical University of Graz. The Styrian health university is characterized by sustainability in teaching, research, and patient care, with the main focus on prevention and preservation of health. Students, instructors, and staff learn and work together according to the principles of the biopsychosocial model, which places the person with all his or her needs at the center of attention. In parallel with future doctors' and nurses' training and research into innovative treatment methods and health-preserving measures, the health university provides high-level patient care. Not only do students gain from expert knowledge, so does the whole population. Both young and old can take advantage of this vast range of knowledge in media coverage, talks, and a significant number of events. Postgraduate continuing education for doctors and other target groups completes the broad range of services.
The Medical University of Graz is a legal entity under public law whose legal basis is provided by the University Act (UG) 2002. Additionally, every university enacts the necessary regulations in the framework of laws and provisions itself through its statutes. The supreme management bodies are The Rectorate, University Council, and the Senate.
Teaching and research are carried out and patient care overseen at the Medical University of Graz's 16 institutes, 19 departments, and three clinical facilities according to the principles of the biopsychosocial model.
Interdisciplinary research is carried out in a large number of scientific fields in these university establishments. Students acquire practical abilities and skills at the institutes and departments in the framework of seminars, clinical traineeships, and training courses. In addition to research and teaching activities, a large number of Med Uni Graz staff are involved in round-the-clock patient care at University Hospital Graz.
The uniform corporate design strengthens public awareness of the Medical University of Graz and makes a notable contribution to a professional appearance. The well-known Graz physician, Leopold von Auenbrugger (inventor of percussion as a diagnostic technique), and the Styrian panther with the Aesculapian staff in two shades of green form the logo of the Styrian health university. Guidelines on the correct use of the logo and other design specifications can be found in the corporate design manual of Med Uni Graz. If you have any inquiries, please contact the staff office for Public Relations and Event Management of Med Uni Graz.
"Med Uni on the move" is the slogan of the workplace health promotion scheme at the Medical University of Graz. Staff sports activities offered range from dance courses and various sports courses to relaxation techniques and health talks. Regular special focus days complete the range of activities. The diploma in human medicine - only offered in German - prepares students for their future professions as doctors in all specialties. Theoretical foundations and practical skills are taught in an integral, subject-centered, and patient-oriented way. Human scientific aspects have particular importance in terms of the biopsychosocial model. Furthermore, the essential features of scientific thinking are communicated.
Studies in dental medicine prepare the student for subject-specific know-how according to regular broad-based training. This includes conservative dental care, dental prostheses, periodontology, oral surgery, and orthodontics, which are essential subjects of innovative and practical training.
Studies in nursing science are oriented to the various needs and challenges in nursing and health. Original contents of the study program, in addition to a broad theoretical and basic practical knowledge of nursing, include subjects of particular focus, such as health promotion and disease prevention.
The University Library at the Centre for Medical Research is not just a standard library with natural resources. Instead, the rooms and facilities require a much broader definition of the library as a place. Workstations in the conventional sense alternate with comfortable reading zones small seminar rooms fitted out with modern presentation technology offer a place for group-oriented learning. Research desks facilitate quick access to all kinds of information, and the two studios can be used for interactive studying.
Scientific journals, textbooks, and reference works provide an overview of the medical literature of all specialties. Extensive information is collected, prepared, and presented, independently of its form of publication. It ranges from traditional print media, databases, electronic media, and learning materials and includes the establishment of a center of excellence of knowledge discovery.
