The University aims to play a groundbreaking role in the advancement of health-related science and technology, focusing on four areas of study: health sciences, human medicine, psychotherapy and counselling, and neurorehabilitation.

Our evolving range of courses, which stand out for their international outlook, interdisciplinary design and emphasis on biomedical engineering and health economics, will be a valuable supplement to the courses offered at Austria's public universities. A team of experts from the public higher education and health service sectors form the University’s Degree Programme Advisory Board. The University draws on expertise from the University of Vienna, Danube University Krems, the IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems, the Vienna University of Technology, Lower Austrian hospital trust NÖ Landeskliniken-Holding and the University of Basel.

The future demands new perspectives on health. Solutions need to be found to the problems caused by growing populations, longer life expectancies, escalating costs and the increasing demand for highly skilled experts.

We see ourselves as a pioneer for innovation in education and research in the fields of medicine and health sciences, and a catalyst for work which will benefit society at large.

As part of a groundbreaking, holistic approach which sees health as the cornerstone of physical, mental and spiritual well-being, we have brought together four disciplines that have a decisive impact on health policy – health science, human medicine, psychotherapy and counselling, and neurorehabilitation – under the banner of health sciences. Courses specialising in biomedical engineering and health economics are an important part of our degree programmes.

A strong emphasis on the interrelated fields of human medicine, biomedical engineering and health economics is another facet of our integrative, interdisciplinary philosophy. The interaction between these three disciplines is opening up new areas of academic study and research for health professionals, who are in high demand on the international job market.

Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences educates the next generation of health scientists and doctors. They will be pioneers in new areas of research and flag bearers for an interdisciplinary approach to health and medicine. They will set new standards for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment, as well as research into 21st century diseases and medical conditions.

Degree programmes in health science, human medicine, psychotherapy and counselling, and neurorehabilitation develop students’ communication, professional, and problem-solving skills. Our network of partner hospitals in St. Pölten, Krems and Tulln enable us to provide students with a quality-assured, research-led education, and to carry out top-class clinical research with a strong international reputation.

Biomedical engineering and health economics are key focus areas at Karl Landsteiner University. Both of these subjects are integral to our state-of-the-art curriculum and essential components of our degree programmes and research initiatives. Our graduates are in a position to understand the implications of innovations in biomedical engineering and deal with the challenges posed by health policies.

Our demand-driven degree programmes with their strong international focus lay the foundations for first-class education, new professions, valuable research and innovative business. This combination in turn gives patients access to top-quality health services backed up by cutting-edge teaching, research and technology.
