Danube University Krems is the University for continuing education. Its courses are correctly oriented toward the needs of working professionals. The University offers exclusive master's programs and short programs in five areas of study. It is one of the leading providers of further education courses in Europe. Danube University Krems combines 20 years of postgraduate education with innovation and highest quality standards in research and teaching and bears the AQ Austria seal of quality.
Danube University Krems is one of the pioneering institutions in Europe in the field of university-based advanced education and a specialized institution in the sector of lifelong learning. In teaching and research, the University focuses on social as well as organizational and technical challenges of current times and is developing innovative courses on an ongoing basis. The University for Continuing Education is focused explicitly on interdisciplinary cross-linking and future-oriented particular sectors: it offers courses that combine medicine and management, education and new media, or law and social sciences.
Highest quality standards, a scientific, practical approach, and the use of innovating teaching and learning methods are part of all courses. Danube University Krems bears the AQ Austria seal of quality in compliance with the Austrian Federal Act on Quality Assurance in Higher Education.
Attendees of Danube University Krems are students with very high expectations. Aged on average 40 years, they have several years of professional experience and usually a higher educational degree (University, college of higher education, or academy). At Danube University Krems, they prepare themselves for the next step in their career, update their knowledge, acquire new skills, and develop their abilities.
Danube University Krems is primarily devoted to translational research in areas such as Health and Medicine, Educational Research and Lifelong Learning, European Integration, Migration and Economics, and Art, Culture and Architecture. Scientific conclusions constitute the basis of practice-oriented teaching at the University for Continuing Education. Furthermore, the research being conducted here permits intensive cooperation with companies and other public institutions. The three faculties of the University conduct research that extends beyond the confines of their respective specialties.
Danube University Krems is located 80 km from Vienna – in one of the most beautiful cultural landscapes of Europe known as the Wachau. It has been declared a world heritage site by UNESCO. The modern adaptation of a former tobacco factory in Stein, a characteristic industrial building dating back to the start of the 20th century, and the new premises at Campus Krems offer students and teachers an open and motivating environment that promotes innovation. The facilities include modern teaching and research rooms, a library, an auditorium, a cinema, apartments, and a variety of restaurants.
Danube University Krems is committed to the goals of the European Universities' Charter on Lifelong Learning because the University has been founded as an institution of continuing education in keeping with the concept of Lifelong Learning (LLL).
The founding principle, strategy, and subsequent development of Danube University Krems are entirely in concurrence with the concept of lifelong learning.
The University for Continuing Education (Danube University Krems) has avowed itself to the goals of a transparent, competence-oriented education system, as the hitherto regular course of education and training which consisted of secondary school, University, and entry into professional life, is being increasingly replaced by more variable and atypical courses of education and career. The university environment now accommodates students from various countries with different types of preceding education and diverse needs.
Students of the Danube University Krems are individuals who have already completed an academic degree and have already gained a wealth of experience in their professional lives. They are professionals who want to expand or update their expertise and competencies, building upon their existing knowledge and experience. They aspire to face the challenges of a rapidly changing, complex, networked, and globalized society successfully.
The Faculty of Health and Medicine of Danube University Krems stands for medical and health science competence in research and teaching. Apart from its fields of expertise such as clinical medicine, prevention, dentistry, and complementary medicine, the Faculty also focuses on medical biotechnology, evidence-based medicine, and epidemiology, the promotion of health, healthcare management as well as on the area of biopsychosocial interventions and psychotherapy. As mandated by Austrian Federal law, the Faculty offers interdisciplinary and postgraduate education according to education requirements, advanced training, and continuing education. Its fields of research are continually expanded.
