  1. "Prof. D-r. Assen Zlatarov" University is the only state university in Southeast Bulgaria. It was founded on 6th October 1963 by Decree № 162 of the Council of Ministers as a Higher Chemico-technological institute "Prof. D-r. Assen Zlatarov," which connected forever with the name of its patron. "Prof. D-r. Assen Zlatarov" University was ratified as such by a resolution of the National Assembly in 1995. "Prof. D-r. Assen Zlatarov" University was institutionally accredited by resolution №16 of 17.05. 2007 of the National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency for the term of 6 years. Tuition is carried out in three faculties - Faculty of technical sciences, Faculty of natural sciences, and social sciences. It includes three colleges – technical college, Medical College, and the College of Tourism. Tuition is carried out in 29 accredited Bachelor's and over 60 Master's programs. The Department of foreign language studies, the central scientific research library, and the Computer center have their proper place in the University's structure. Students studying at the University, acquire the educational and qualification degrees of "professional Bachelor," "Bachelor," and "Master," as well as the educational and qualification degree of "Doctor." More than 320 highly qualified lecturers, 127 of them habilitated, teach at the University. Organization and management of the educational process at the University comply with the European requirements and criteria for qualitative educational and research process. A university evaluation and education quality maintenance system has been worked out. The University has been rated among the first in Bulgaria according to the quality of the research on the Hirsch system for scientific contribution... Carrying out the university management policy for rejuvenating and heightening the academic staff qualification, there has been a practice established for announcing competitions on all levels – from "assistant professor" to "professor." Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov University has a modern material base and facilities which comply with the state requirements for the high quality of education. It consists of six academic buildings, sports facilities, three student hostels, three student canteens, and a medical service center. The hostels can accommodate all the students who are not residents of Burgas. The university library comprises the Central library and three affiliates. The library offers materials of different knowledge – social, economic, humanitarian, and technical. There are 150 equipped seats in the reading room. Access to scientific database Scopus, Science Direct, Embase, Web of Knowledge is provided. The academic management has continuously been making systematic efforts for maintenance, expansion, practical use, and modernizing and renovation of the available material and technical facilities. The University has established active scientific relations with institutes and universities in England, France, Germany, Russia, Turkey, Spain, Italy, Hungary, Serbia, Poland, Slovenia, etc. They allow scientific specializations and study practice of the academic staff and students to exchange lecturers, academic and scientific literature. The primary strategic goal is to provide constant growth and sustainable development through innovations, the optimal combination of scientific research in fundamental and applied sciences with tuition and continual qualification by the European Qualifications Framework, and the national and international labor markets' needs. Specific goals:- Strengthening and development of the University structure through expansion and establishment of the democratic principle in the overall management and functioning of the institution Providing and maintaining a high quality of the educational and scientific process, which guarantees sustainable and competitive development within the common European educational and scientific research area. Expansion of international educational, scientific research, and cultural cooperation with similar institutions Provision of sustainable investment and transparent financial policy, maintenance and renovation of the University material and technical facilities Major priorities:- Operating objectives and activities:- Creation of communication management strategy, providing a favorable information environment, enhancing confidence, and promoting the University's standing and the academic community on both national and international scale. Expanding the University profile by opening new, attractive, and high-demand specialties, joint education with other institutions of higher education in Bulgaria and abroad Encouraging and supporting students' participation in all forms of management Preservation and development of the educational and scientific human resources of the University structure, using the new opportunities provided by the educational and professional regulations Recruitment and development of young reliable specialists coming from the academic and business circles Creating conditions for a more flexible educational and scientific mobility of students and academic staff Encouraging the scientific research and educational activities and the creativity of the students to form them as professionals of а new type, adequate to the requirements of 21st century Europe Establishing the University as a center of scientific, applied, and academic research and technologies, taking it to the leading positions in the National University rating system. Continuing the tradition in the establishment of international contract-based cooperation and partnership for more active exchange in the area of education and scientific research Providing viable and transparent financial management with the Syndicate organization's active participation and partnership and the University's primary divisions. Continuation of the income growth policy and binding the financial incentives and social benefits with the actual labor and creative contribution. Inactive partnership with the Syndicate and Student Councils, expanding social benefits for academic staff, employees, and students, including better healthcare, adequate rest, and vacations. Better integration within the University and mobility for efficient use of human, material, and financial resources Application of new approaches to encourage the professional and creative activity of the academic community Updating the University web-site and harmonizing it with the European educational standards.
