Our culture and environment produce strong, worldly women capable of forging a positive path for themselves and others. Our Boarding House, Yumba-Gy-You, is located on campus, nestled in the Yeppoon Central Business District's foothills, within walking distance to the Southern Great Barrier Reef. Yeppoon has 18,100 residents and is a safe and friendly, close-knit community on the Capricorn Coast in tropical Queensland. As you navigate this website and our resources, we trust that you will be equipped to make the best choice for your daughter's future; however, if we can be of further assistance, do not hesitate to contact the College. Here at St Ursula's College, we offer high tier Academic and Co-curricular programs, available to both Boarding and Day Students. In partnership with parents and carers, and with the support of a skilled team of Pastoral Care professionals, the staff at St Ursula's lead by example and nurture students through the journey to young adulthood. Our College Motto, 'Perfect My Steps,' recognizes that learning is a journey that involves improvement and growth. Stimulating learning environments include plenty of real-world experiences to encourage each student to find their passion. Respect, Faith, Excellence, Compassion, Hospitality, and Simplicity, are the six core values underpinning the Vision and Mission of St Ursula's College. We believe in each person's dignity and encourage all to treat others with consideration and courtesy, acknowledging the value of other viewpoints and life experiences. We strive to ensure that all members of the College community are treated with fairness and equity. We seek to make students aware of our rich Catholic heritage, nurturing this as the Catholic identity and living source. We strive to build upon the faith and commitment of the Presentation Sisters. They founded the College by providing Religious Education and experiences of prayer, liturgy, and social action that make the faith dimension of this College life-giving and relevant. We believe that each human being is endowed with individual gifts that deserve recognition and development. We strive to promote an environment where all are encouraged and enabled to develop their potential and experience success according to personal capabilities and circumstances. We believe we have a responsibility for others' well-being in and beyond our community, particularly those who are suffering or vulnerable. We strive to develop a sense of concern for others and a spirit of service so that this concern is expressed and enacted. We believe that a Christian community is inclusive. We strive to develop a sense of welcome and an acceptance of others such that all in the community are inspired to demonstrate a willingness to share their talents and cultures to enhance life for all. We promote and model reconciliation and strive to restore relationships when conflict or division occurs. We value all of creation and the interconnectedness of life. We strive to develop a sense of appreciation for our physical environment and personal resources. We promote good stewardship and social responsibility rather than a focus on material possessions. We declare that the mission of St Ursula's College is to continue the mission of Jesus, living and proclaiming the Gospel values to all people, especially in our school community, with fidelity, joy, and enthusiasm. Our mission demands that we create an environment where the Gospel values – both in daily living and in the learning situation – can be critically examined, clearly understood, and responsibly acted upon. This demands severe and courageous involvement in education and in the practice of justice in our efforts to transform the world. The history of St Ursula's College dates back to 1915, when Rockhampton Bishop, Joseph Shiel, suggested a Branch House for the Order of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (PBVM) (Presentation Sisters) be opened in Yeppoon. Presentation Sisters, Mother Ursula Kennedy and Mother Patrick Madden, visited Yeppoon and selected a one-acre block in central Yeppoon. At the suggestion of Bishop Shiel, the Branch House became known as St Ursula's. A two-story convent in Queen Street with St Joseph's Primary School on the Ground floor was officially opened to students on 29 January 1917, with 25 Boarders and 30 Primary students. The Sisters' mission was to continue their Order's Founder, Nano Nagle, who championed education for all. Within the next 12 months, the need for specialized education for young women became apparent. On 12 March 1918, St Ursula's College, Yeppoon, came into being, with 32 students in attendance. Their classroom was on the first floor, with the Primary School below. In 1922, a new building was erected, which became the convent. This building still stands at the top of the driveway and is now called Gabriel Hogan House. A surge in student numbers in the 1950s meant the classrooms for primary students – still underneath the original convent – no longer met the demand for places. Sacred Heart Primary School, situated next to Sacred Heart Church in John Street, opened in 1958. Sacred Heart Primary School relocated to its current location in Lammermoor in 1991. The latter half of the 20th century saw a rapid increase in the number of lay teachers, as Catholic classrooms adapted to a decline in the availability of Religious Sisters and Brothers to teach. In 1992, the Presentation Sisters took the significant step of forming a company, St Ursula's College Limited, to ensure that St Ursula's would continue in the Presentation tradition after Religious Leadership ceased. The College's first Lay Principal, Mrs. Margaret Ramsay (Clifford), was appointed in 1996. The Presentation Sisters remained on staff at the College up until 2011. On 12 June 2014, St Ursula's College, Yeppoon, formalized the Transition of Canonical Sponsorship from the Presentation Sisters to Mercy Partners. Inspired by those who lead the way, and as a sign of commitment to continuing the journey for future generations, students and staff from St Benedict's and Sacred Heart Primary Schools and St Brendan's, and St Ursula's Colleges, gathered in July 2017 and celebrated 100 years of Catholic Education and 'Presentation Presence' on the Capricorn Coast. In 2018, St Ursula's College acknowledged its Centenary of educating young women with a three-day-long weekend of Celebrations and a year-long commitment to ‘100 Acts of Service'. The ongoing demand and support for Catholic education, the resilience of the faith-filled community during times of difficulty and change, and the vibrant and progressive nature of the Capricorn Coast community have ensured that the story of St Ursula's College is a continuing one. St Ursula's College is a vibrant Faith community providing holistic Catholic education and the residential environment through which young women are encouraged to realize their potential founded on the charism of Nano Nagle and the values of the Presentation Sisters yet, responsive to the demands created by the social dynamics of the 21st century. 2. Welcome to St Brendan's College, Central Queensland's leading Catholic secondary school for boys, operating since 1940. We are a day and boarding school for boys from Years 7 to 12, located on a beautiful 300 acres only minutes to Yeppoon's beaches and only a 30-minute drive from Rockhampton. We provide diverse academic and extra-curricular programs, giving boys significant opportunities to grow into young men of knowledge, respect, and faith. Our emphasis is on developing the whole person and, in particular, the need to grow boys into respectful, confident, and successful young men of faith. A proactive Pastoral Care program and the Edmund Rice ethos underpins all endeavors and creates boys who understand and believe in service to the community in a spirit of justice and solidarity. We have a strong academic program that offers students multiple pathways to pursue tertiary education or move into trade-based qualifications, with a significant and renowned vocational education and training (VET) facility onsite. The College is recognized nationally for its sporting prowess and has abundant co-curricular opportunities, including music, cultural, and technology programs that are second to none in Central Queensland. Our College community strives for excellence and has a reputation for producing friendly, hard-working, and down-to-earth young men. Enrolments are drawn from the Capricorn Coast, from rural and regional Queensland, and north as the Torres Strait. With this diversity of students, strong cultural and social interactions are assured, and friendships are often maintained for life. The boarding residences provide an excellent living environment for boarders, nestled amongst beautiful gardens, large sporting fields, and adjacent to the first-class academic facilities of the College. Every opportunity is at the boys' fingertips, and with guidance from our Head of Boarding, Fr Pius Jones, the Heads of Residence, Houseparents, and members of the support services, there is space for them to grow and mature. We are a diverse, vibrant, and welcoming community founded on the values of the Gospel. St Brendan's College is confident that in providing a well-rounded education in partnership with parents and families, the College's young men will enter the world with the knowledge, confidence, values, and skills to make a difference. We are proud that young men leave our College with brotherhood and belonging for life more than an education. We invite you to discover a snapshot of life at St Brendan's College by browsing our website and welcoming you to visit our College. We believe that faith and formation are integral to the development of young men. As a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice tradition, the College's faith life, supported by a proactive Pastoral Care program, underpins all our endeavors. Our core mission is to create a safe environment for young men of faith, respect, and knowledge. Besides internal Masses, our students are often involved in the community of faith on the Capricorn Coast at other Masses and events. Opportunities for reflection, prayer, and liturgy are embedded throughout daily school life. This allows students to explore faith and spirituality individually, as a class group, at a year level, and as a whole school. Every Saturday evening, our boarding students travel to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church to celebrate the Eucharist, allowing them to reflect and grow in their understanding of the Catholic faith. All members of our school and the broader community are welcome to attend this Mass. St Brendan's College has a rich history part of Yeppoon's fabric and development on the Capricorn Coast, Central Queensland. In 1908, Bishop Duhig acquired the property "Copland's" in Yeppoon as a site for a boarding school with the dream of gathering "the sturdy station children, the sons of cattlemen and sheepmen from the great, grand heart of the West, to be familiarized with Catholic faith and practice, in proper surroundings." During the 1930's Rev. Br. I. Dowd traveled to the Rockhampton Diocese to collect funds and support to construct the new College on the "Copland's" site. The Christian Brothers' community in Rockhampton supervised the site's clearing and the construction of the first buildings. They were significantly helped by a group of old boys and supporters of the Christian Brothers. The foundation stone of St Brendan's College, Mary's Mount, Yeppoon was blessed by Right Reverend Dr. Hayes D.D., Bishop of Rockhampton, on October 8th, 1939. In February 1940, Bishop Hayes officially opened St Brendan's College in the then Archbishop of Brisbane, the Most Reverend Sir James Duhig, who had purchased the site some thirty years before. The school commenced with 42 boarders and 15 local students. Rev. Br. J.B. Get tons was appointed the first Headmaster of the College and guided its growth in the early years. Bishop Tynan was a most active benefactor of the College in these early years. Throughout its history, the College has met young men's educational needs from throughout Central Queensland, mainly supporting rural families off the land and from small rural townships. For many years there was also a deep connection to Papua New Guinea, with many students attending St Brendan's education. In more recent times, the Central Queensland mining boom brought students from Central Highlands, and the growth of the Capricorn Coast also saw a steady increase in the day student population. Fulfilling its mission, the College also committed itself to Indigenous youth's education, with a significant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student population, and this continues today. Over many years the College has developed the structures, support, and culture within the community to be a reconciliation model in action. The faith life of the College has underpinned all of its endeavors. The liturgical life of the College has always been deeply respected. It has provided a rich experience that has led to a strong commitment to reaching out to others in the community spirit of justice and solidarity. In recent years the College has undertaken significant physical and structural change to improve its quality service, particularly with the introduction of Year 7 to secondary school. The College is firmly committed to educating young men from throughout Central Queensland and beyond on its foundation campus, always looking to the future for opportunities to grow. St Brendan's College is located on a 300-acre campus nestled at the foot of Mt Barmoya, minutes from Yeppoon beaches and the central business district. It is an easy 40-minute drive from Rockhampton (direct air, train, and bus access) to the seaside community in Central Queensland. The main campus occupies a built area of 10-acres. With the remainder a tranquil, bushland setting where the smell of eucalypt leaves you in no doubt you are among the green and gold, both that of Australia and of St Brendan's where the school colors echo throughout. The campus has numerous dedicated facilities assisting staff in the pursuit of academic, sporting, and pastoral excellence. This curated blend contributes to the College's unique nature as a holistic facility, one that provides students the convenience and safety of being able to fulfill their needs without additional travel.
