  1. Sungshin Women's University is a private school founded in 1936, under the motto of 'Improvement of the Status of Women' by Dr. Sook-chong Lee and her strong spirit and teaching philosophy. Together with Korea's modern history, Sungshin Women's University has been continuously working towards fostering global leaders who will play a vital role in the development of the country and society for 75 years based on the educational philosophy of "Embrace sincerity/faith", "Strive for new knowledge", and "Act independently". The school was reorganized as the Girls' School of Home Management. In November 1945, just after the nation's liberation, the school was renamed Sungshin Girls' Middle School. Sungshin Women's Junior College was established in January 1936 with four departments: the Department of Home Management, the Department of Business Administration, the Department of Crafts, and the Department of Textiles and Clothing. Dr. Lee Sook-chong was appointed as the first president of the College. Sungshin Elementary School, Sungshin Girls' Middle School, and Sungshin Girls' High School were established in 1965, 1967, and 1969. In the meantime, new departments were added to the College. The Graduate School was established in 1972. In 1979, the status of the College was changed from that of a teachers' College to that of a liberal arts and sciences college, in line with the long-term development plans of Sungshin Institute. From that time on, Sungshin Women's College has pursued a college education and been regarded as a more progressive college. In December 1979, the Graduate School of Industrial Studies was established. On March 1, 2011, after two years and four months of a long construction period, the newly opened Woonjung Green Campus showed that Sungshin Women's University is at the center of continuous change and development. Woonjung Green Campus is only 5km away from the main Soojung Campus and is the only University in Korea to have a second campus located in Seoul. The new campus has marked a new era in Korea's history of education, with green and culture as a harmonious blend, attracts many people. With the successful opening of Woonjung Green Campus, we use this as our starting point and will take on a new challenge. We will achieve what other universities can only dream about. Soojung Campus (Seongbuk-gu, Donamdong), Woonjung Green Campus (Gangbuk-gu, Mia-dong), and Nanyang Campus (Dobong-gu, Dobong-dong) are all located within Seoul and have an intricate relationship with one another, actualizing the rough outlines of Sungshin's future development strategies. If these plans are fully realized, Sungshin students will able to vision even bigger dreams in an optimal educational environment. Sungshin will continue to take on new challenges and secure a student-centered learning environment with excellent faculty. We will also continue to adopt a future-oriented system that will produce individuals capable of contributing to our society and lead the way for change. Sungshin Women's University has pursued a better college education and promoted the quality of education. Many of the other private educational institutes have their traditions and characteristics. However, very few of them have a total-educational system-comprised of a pre-school, an elementary school, a junior-high-school, a high school, and a college- as does the Sungshin Institute. Therefore, the Sungshin Institute, which was established without any foreign support, has served as an exemplary success model for other private educational institutes. As of 1995, the Sungshin Institute consisted of Sungshin Pre-school, Sungshin Elementary School, Sungshin Girls' Middle School, Sungshin Girls' High School, and Sungshin Women's University. Currently, the University is composed of 7 colleges offering 35 significant courses and five graduate schools. Approximately 13,000 students are currently enrolled, while 680 staff and faculty members serve at the University. View full university
