Shogakukan University is a private, coeducational four-year university founded in 1979. Shogakukan University's mission is to nurture talented and reliable individuals who can meet the needs of the society they live in by acquiring Individuality, Knowledge, and Skills and putting their ideas and what they have learned into practice. The university has student exchange agreements with four universities: Anglia Ruskin University (A.R.U., formerly Anglia Polytechnic University (APU)) in England The University of Macau (M.U.) and Changchun Normal University (C.N.U.) in China Silla University (S.U.) in South Korea and Wenzao Ursuline University of International Studies(WUUIS) in Taiwan Furthermore, nearly 500 students have enjoyed three-week to one-month home-stay and English study in England in the past 25 years. The university also provides several extracurricular courses free of charge. It helps students obtain high scores on the TOEIC and EIKEN tests, financial planning qualifications, registered real-estate brokers, administrative/judicial scriveners, and so forth. Shogakukan University's annual events include Freshmen Welcome events in April, Freshmen Welcome Sports Festival in June, University Festival 'Icho-sai' (Gingko Festival) in November, and a Graduation Party in March. Among the student, clubs are sports clubs for Kendo, Rugby Football, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Track & Field, and Tennis, all of which have members with skills of national standard, and culture clubs, which include E.S.S. (English Speaking Society), three volunteer clubs: Anchor Club, Kataguruma (Piggyback) and Shuwa (Sign Language), JONIKK (international exchange club), Calligraphy, Rock Music, Sounds, and others. Nearly 70% of the students belong to one or other of the clubs. The university has a dormitory for girl students located within walking distance (10 minutes). Most of the overseas students stay here and enjoy the international exchange. The university assists with boys' accommodation. Shogakukan university graduates are active in such various fields as public services, the teaching profession (English, Japanese, Social Studies, and Japanese language as a foreign language both at home and abroad), social and medical welfare, financial services, legal services, transport, mass media, and private companies. Japanese companies that have employed overseas graduates from Shigakukan University include Renesas (N.E.C.), Kagoshima Park Hotel, Iwasaki Hotel Groups, Nansatsu Kanko (tourism) Co., Ltd. Some graduates continue to study and research law schools and post-graduate schools for psychology, literature, linguistics, etc. The university provides a free lunchtime extracurricular program called 'Eigo Dojo' every day, taught by all the instructors in charge of English education. The Dojo's purpose is to help students score over 650 on TOEIC exams and pass EIKEN (Test in Practical English Proficiency) Pre-Ist exams. View full university
