Father Saturnino Urios University, a lay-empowered, Filipino, Catholic, Diocesan, Educational Institution, envisions a community of men and women committed to pursuing the work of Christ for the wholeness of society. The Academic Affairs Office takes care of one of the four-fold noble functions of the University: Instructions. Being the center of any educational institution, the Office sees that all the academic programs follow quality instruction standards. It also handles particular tasks on accreditation at all academic levels. The development of faculty members in terms of teaching skills and competencies necessary for student learning is also being ensured here. The Office also extends its loving arms in the formation of wholesome club/ organization activities, Honors Program, and the like, all for the Urian brand of service and excellence. The FSUU Office of Admissions and Scholarships (OAS) is the institution's arm, which extends to students from other parts of the region to provide them with a chance at a quality university education. It is the Office tasked with the articulation of the various programs and services offered by Father Saturnino Urios University. The OAS also provides options for different scholarships to its students. These scholarships are made available to qualified students who have the academic capability but lack the financial resources needed for their schooling. The FSUU library system is one of the most advanced libraries in the Caraga Region, Philippines. It has five libraries, four of which are located on the main campus and one at the Basic Education Campus. Its services are computerized book cataloging, electronic borrowing, bibliographic services, term paper clinic, document delivery, research and support services, and internet access. Aside from the regular library sections, it has an Electronic Learning Center where e-books and e-journals, including Britannica On-Line, are available. The library's rich collections summed up to 33,422 titles and 42,556 volumes as of March 2010. This includes dissertations and abstracts international for graduate students and Lix Libres for law students. All books are accessible through the On-Line Public Access Catalog (OPAC) powered by FOLLETT.FSUU has four (4) functional Audio-Visual Rooms (AVR) designated as AVR 1, AVR 2, AVR 3, and AVR 4 to accommodate big and small groups. These Audio Visual rooms hold various functions like training, programs, variety shows, and other activities. The imposing university gym has a PBA-accredited basketball court with a seating capacity of 4,300. Adjacent to the gym is the P.E. hall with dance areas and facilities for table tennis, taekwondo, and Physical Resistance Therapy (PRT) center. The gym serves as a venue for concerts, pageants, local/regional competitions, sports clinics, invitational games, and institutional activities. FSUU is equipped with the latest in technology. It has seven (7) computer laboratories with fully-licensed latest software used in the mainstream industry. The center strictly follows a one-student-to-one-computer ratio. The pet center of FSUU can service an average of 250 students in a day. The center caters to the Urian students' needs in research to supplement necessary information in their subject requirements. It boasts high-speed connectivity via a dedicated 5-E1 subscription that totals to a bandwidth of 10Mbps. The University also offers unlimited internet service to students, including access to the wireless system anywhere. The FSUU-HRM Mini Hotel, glamorously named Hotel Saturnino, is a miniature model of what it takes and how it feels billeted in a hotel with five-star amenities. The establishment of this posh mini-hotel is an essential requirement before a school can offer a course in Hotel and Restaurant Management. Located on the left-wing of the CBS Building of the Main Campus, it serves as a venue for HRM students to conduct their return demonstrations and related learning experiences. What makes the Mini Hotel even grander is its tempting Mini Bar, clean kitchen with complete utensils, and laundry. And wait, the Mini Hotel also offers a cozy reception for those significant visitors outside the University. Feel cool. Feel more relaxed. Savor every stay in Hotel Saturnino. The FSUU Bookstore is situated along with San Francisco and P. Burgos Streets, Butuan City. It offers school and office supplies, souvenir items, FSUU apparel school, and P.E. uniforms. Other services include bookbinding, photocopying, I.D. – Making, and offset printing. Members of the Urian community who work in offering services to the clienteles are essential to supporting and realizing the vision and mission of Father Saturnino Urios University. These employees deal with everything from the University's human and financial resources to health and safety matters. Father Saturnino Urios University was christened Butuan Parochial School on October 21, 1901, by Reverend Father Saturnino Urios, S.J. It began as a boys' school, which later gained government recognition in 1927 as an elementary school. It was, at first, a low building made of bricks, adjacent to the old church. The school changed its identity on several occasions over the next 50 years under the management of the Dutch Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (MSC). In 1939, the Butuan Parochial School opened its high school department and renamed itself Father Urios High School after its founder, who had died 23 years prior. With the opening of the college department in 1950, it was renamed to Father Urios College, simplified in 1970 as Urios College. The Filipinization of schools under the 1972 Philippine Constitution gave way to the diocesan administration of Urios College. Its first and longest-staying lay president, Juanito A. Lao Ph.D., was then installed in 1976. From 1970-2004, Urios College served the community, contributing immensely to the spiritual, intellectual, cultural, political, social, and moral development of Caraga's people. During these years, the school realized its motto: "Luceat Lux Vestra" - Let Your Light Shine. Urios College has taken a drastic turn since Rev. Fr. John Christian U. Young took its helm as President in 2004. At that time, the school's facilities had been worn and torn Butuanons of today recall how the school seemed to have lost its flare. Under Fr. Young's leadership and example, however, Urios College reorganized its operations and rekindled its commitment to academic excellence and quality education. On July 10, 2006, after a strong showing from the entire Urian community, Urios College elevated its typology into a university—the first homegrown University in Caraga. From handling a few pupils in a non-graded, catechism school, what was once Butuan Parochial School is now Father Saturnino Urios University, or FSUU. It offers the full K to 12 tertiary program courses in accountancy, business and management, computer science, engineering and technology, information technology, nursing, arts and sciences, criminology, and teacher education.
