- Rendcomb College dates back to 1920 when it was founded by Frederick Noel Hamilton Wills whose uncle and cousins had earlier endowed buildings at Bristol University. While the school draws closer to its centenary, we maintain a vision and ethos that remains true to Wills’ original values of providing an inclusive and broad-ranging education for our pupils. There has been a house and a church in Rendcomb since the 12th Century and were both rebuilt in the late 17th Century. The house and estate were owned by the Berkeley Family until the early 20th Century and were first put on sale in 1913. Frederick Noel Hamilton Wills purchased the village and houses in 1918 and alongside J H Simpson as Headmaster, Noel Wills opened the school for twelve boys in June 1920. Girls were introduced into Rendcomb College’s Sixth Form in 1972 and the school became fully co-educational in 1992. The Junior School was opened in 2000 and the Nursery opened in 2005 providing a continuous education at Rendcomb College from the age of 3 to 18. Located in the picturesque Cotswold village of Rendcomb, the College provides a safe, stimulating, and enchanting environment for our pupils who benefit from the ample on-site facilities within our 230-acre estate. Our mission is to develop thoughtful, adventurous, and academically ambitious young people who are life-long learners. We aim to prepare them with the character and skills to succeed in the ever-changing world after school. Our pupils have the freedom to experience, explore and enquire about the world around them. We aim to encourage independence and tolerance in a safe, caring community and magnificent natural environment. To Achieve This We Will: Promote a growth mindset, where abilities can be developed through dedication and hard-work Provide a co-curriculum that will challenge and support character development, leadership, and teamwork Encourage individualism, creativity, and contribution to a nurturing and collaborative community Engender physical, spiritual, and mental well‑being through a strong pastoral system Prepare pupils for life beyond school Develop an appreciation for and responsible attitude towards their environment and surroundings. To adventure requires freedom. As parents and teachers, the most precious thing we can do is give children the freedom to learn and develop and enjoy the adventure of growing up.
