In 1874, the university was the center of education, science, and culture of the northeastern Ukraine part. As the oldest pedagogical establishment, the university can be proud of its graduates who got love for Ukraine, patriotism, dignity, honor, spirituality while studying here. The university has prepared over 25000 teachers since 1874. Such famous personalities as world cinema genius Oleksandr Dovzhenko, outstanding Russian writer academician S. Sergeev-Tsensky, Ukrainian writer and educator S. Vasyl'chenko, Ukrainian politician I. Palyvoda, Belorussian poet and translator Yanka Zhurba, founder of the academic choir "Dumka" N. Horodovenko, writers O. Palazhchenko, P. Klyuchyna, O.Stolbin, academicians S. Shapovalenko and F. Ovcharenko, state prizes laureates Ye. Kvasnykov and P. Ahaletsky, Ukrainian pedagogic sciences academy academician M. Vashulenko and other scientists and culture activists studied at the university. The university developed considerably in independent Ukraine and especially in the latest ten years. According to the Ukrainian government order #958 of July 16, 2008, Hlukhiv state pedagogical university was named after its famous graduate, famous writer and film director Oleksandr Dovzhenko according to the decision of the State accreditation commission of July 2, 2009, protocol #79, the educational establishment was recognized for the 4th accreditation level according to the President of Ukraine order of October 1, 2009, #792/2009 for the state and international acknowledgment of its activity, and for the profound contribution into the development of national education and science, the university got the status of national. Nowadays, the university exists as the higher pedagogical educational establishment of the European type. It was reached due to every day hard work aimed at creating the scientific schools, improving the level of scientific and teaching staff, strengthening the ties of science with the practical professional activity, development of information and innovation pedagogical technologies, implementing the progressive forms and methods of cooperation in the educational field, creating the social infrastructure. The structure of Oleksandr Dovzhenko Hlukhiv national pedagogical university comprises Pre-professional and post-graduate education teaching and scientific institute, Humanitarian education teaching, and scientific institute, the following faculties: Technological and professional education faculty, Pedagogics and psychology faculty, Pre-school and primary education faculty, Natural sciences education faculty and 6 Distance education centers (towns of Sumy, Konotop, Bar, Mohyliv-Podil's'ky, Sevastopol' and Sosnytsya). Twenty-one departments prepare the professionals of the educational and professional levels of "bachelor," "specialist," and "master" in the following fields of knowledge: pedagogical education, humanitarian, natural sciences, social and political sciences, physical training, sport, and health. After graduate scientific training in the specialties of Theory and Methodics of the professional education and Ukrainian literature was started based on the university. The students can use the modern rooms, scientific and learning libraries, rear books library, reading halls, computer laboratories, foreign languages laboratory, students' café, sports complexes, the best in the town hostels. The educational establishment prepares and provides in-service training of the specialists of the educational and professional levels of "bachelor," "specialist," "master" in the following fields of knowledge: pedagogical education, humanitarian, natural sciences, social and political sciences, physical training, sport, and health. Nowadays, it is the European type's educational establishment with a powerful and effective education system, known and famous. It is situated on the glorious Kozak territory full of the spirit of glory, courage, honor, based on the best pedagogical traditions. It follows the time demands giving profound education to the young generation.
