We believe that Christian education is a vital ministry and that, where possible, every student should have the opportunity to study on a Seventh-day Adventist campus. Since Newbold was established in 1901, we have been committed to our founders' objective to develop autonomous learners who do not merely reflect the thinking of others. We are a student-centered, inclusive, and innovative learning community operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, making us a member of an educational community that includes over 7,800 educational institutions that operate across 145 countries with 1.8 million students worldwide. The diversity of our educational network is reflected in our campus community, our staff, our students, and our graduates, and through the universities in the United Kingdom, Germany, and the United States. We partner in the provision of our programs. Newbold College of Higher Education was founded in 1901 at Duncombe Hall College in Holloway, North London. Its purpose was to educate ministers and church workers for the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The College's name has changed many times since then as it has evolved from a missionary training school into a fully-fledged international college of higher education offering degrees and diplomas in a wide range of subjects. However, the Christian gospel's commitment has stayed constant in the hearts of many staff and students. The village of Binfield in Berkshire, where the College has been situated since February 1946, has a rich history of its own. Less than 11 miles (17 kilometers) from Windsor Castle, it was part of the ancient Royal Forest of Windsor. It was also for a time the home of the great eighteenth-century poet Alexander Pope, and the surrounding countryside was the inspiration for some of his poetry. In 1945, the College authorities purchased Moor Close, former home to a bankrupt millionaire, as the first part of the present campus. One of the reasons for this choice was its proximity to the excellent research libraries, museums, and art galleries of Oxford and London – both cities about an hour away. What was not foreseen was the building of Heathrow Airport, some 40 minutes away, which is a bonus for international students. Furthermore, Gatwick Airport is just one hour away by train. Our vision is to be the Seventh-day Adventist Christian higher education institution of choice in Europe. It is our mission to foster a Christ-centered and diverse learning community that prepares students for service in an ever-changing world.
