The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration established the University of BangkokMetropolis (now known as Navamindradhiraj University) as an autonomous higher education institution. Bangkok is a growing capital city with a constant influx of new inhabitants. Unless intelligent and prudent administration systems are arranged, harmonious living will be impossible in this burgeoning metropolis. Navamindradhiraj University, the only local university in Thailand, was established to be a higher education institute to share knowledge and research for urban development, the sustainable advancement of society, and city residents' well-being. Two faculties of the university, the Faculty of Medicine Vajira Hospital and the Kuakarun Faculty of Nursing, which were previously departments under the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, have played essential roles in producing public health personnel for Bangkok and other cities throughout the country. The university also has two faculties that directly support urban development: the Institute for Metropolitan Development, delivering programs in urban engineering and urban management, and the Urban Community College of Bangkok, which provides short and mid-term education in urban development. Growing into its sixth year of operation, the university adheres to its commitment to support sustainable development and improve the quality of urban life with a value-added ambition to be the leader in urbanology through the networking of various organizations. Our Missions is Integrating education management, providing academic services, managing knowledge, creating research and innovation, preserving art, culture, and local knowledge and wisdom to address the needs of cities and bring about social changes for urban development and well-being through the collaborative network of education institutes, private and public sectors and communities. Navamindradhiraj University, in collaboration with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the Ministry of Public Health, the Office of Health Promotion Fund, the Office of International Health Policy, and the Network of Non-communicable Disease Control, initiated a Health Disaster Warning Center. Although the number of Bangkok and Thai people who are sick of various diseases increases every year, information concerning the illnesses is not entirely collected. Each organization responsible for health and public health gathers its data without integrated analysis, resulting in the people's lack of accurate health information. Besides, many more non-registered residents, overseas labor, and tourists living and visiting the country whose health and well-being have not been studied. Navamindradhiraj University feels obligated to improve the present situation by establishing a health disaster warning center to connect and integrate all critical health information from various organizations to find appropriate solutions to deal with health problems. The first action is to produce a health report of Bangkok residents in the year 2015.
