Meisei University was established in 1964 with a mission of "fostering students to achieve self-realization and become people dedicated to society," as a higher education institution of Meisei Gakuen whose philosophy from its establishment was "to foster students to become people dedicated to the world under a philosophy of harmony." This kind of person cannot just be fostered by knowledge through studying alone. It is also necessary to gain the ability to get things done, and the judgment to find, address, and solve problems. These abilities will be fostered when you face the actual issues. To help students to achieve this, Meisei University follows the three educational visions of Meisei Gakuen: Provide education that carefully nurtures students by personality contact. "Personality contact" means communicating to students from the heart, utilizing all of our personalities. We make a stable and mindful relationship with students. Provides education, which improves the mind's power by concentrating the minds mind's efforts on thinking. Superficial education without ingenuity is denied by a mind concentrating on thinking. We provide education full of ingenuity to nurture a prosperous and virile spirit. Provide practical education that encourages students to carry out. We foster students to gain the ability to carry out and achieve goals through practical sessions cooperating with society. This is the origin of the highly-acclaimed "School of Education at Meisei. "" In 2010, we improved practical education in all programs, including the "internship program" of the school of education, which works with schools closed, and " project" of School of Science and Engineering, which is available as an independent subject. Also, to make the most use of having correspondence courses, they are available for students on campus. Students who enrolled in April 2010 and onwards have a chance to obtain a teaching qualification regardless of the school to which students belong. This world refers to international society and the local community, including society, companies, and the nation. As there are so many problems and issues around us, nurturing students to contribute to the world by solving problems is our mission. The universe has a certain degree of order, and this order is maintained by keeping "harmony" with all that exists in the world. We believe that solutions based on the principle of creating harmony lead to meaningful contributions to the world. Education-based on this belief is our mission. The University Library has valuable rare book collections, including several earliest editions of William Shakespeare, Geoffrey Chaucer, James Milton, Jonathan Swift, Johan Wilhelm Goethe, John Keats, William Blake, etc. The Shakespeare collection is remarkable. The University Library presently has a collection of 20,000 volumes, with the core being a substantial number of books acquired from the Folger Shakespeare Libra, the most extensive Shakespeare research library globally. The collection includes 12 First Folios, the standard text for Shakespeare's dramas published in 1623, more than at the British Museum. Quarto volumes of the scripts for the dramas published during Shakespeare's lifetime, Professor Jiro Ozu's extensive collection, various modern and contemporary editions of his work, and various research documents. Iwaki Meisei University (IMU) has been aiming to engage in education and research as an academic institution that contributes to local communities, based on the school motto of its founder, the school corporation Meisei Gakuen: "Healthiness, Sincerity, and Devotedness," since it is the foundation in 1987 in response to an invitation by Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture. The university is currently offering a multifaceted and thorough education to develop human resources beneficial to local communities through the best use of the diversity of its teaching staff and their research fields, including the humanities and social sciences, natural sciences and engineering, life sciences, and pharmaceutical sciences. In 2015, the university was transformed into an organization comprising two faculties: the Faculty of Liberal Arts and the Faculty of Pharmacy. The Faculty of Liberal Arts, reorganized from the former College of Humanities, was launched in 2015, intended to be a faculty providing educational programs more suitable for local communities' requirements and demands. This spring, the Faculty of Pharmacy, established in 2007, celebrated its third graduation day, sending out many future promising pharmacists into the world. The faculty may well be proud that its graduates' success rate in the national examination for pharmacists is usually among the highest nationwide, resulting from the university's original approaches in pharmaceutical education, which have been consistently offered from its first year. We introduce to you the word "glocalization," which you might not have heard before. This word is a portmanteau of two words: "globalization," which implies the pursuit of global standardization, and "localization" (meaning restriction to a particular region/area), which has an orientation toward respect for the features and characteristics of each region/area. The university aims to develop "glocal" human resources who can contribute to local communities' requirements by adopting their global perspectives and ideas to create a better regional society. The development of "glocal" human resources is the target of establishing the new Faculty of Liberal Arts and its education policy. The department's name in the faculty is the "Department of Regional Liberal Arts," a proper name for the education it provides. The Faculty of Pharmacy is also continuing to foster capable pharmacists and specialists in medicines who can contribute to local communities. To achieve this goal in human resource development, we, all the university teaching staff, hope to make every effort to serve as strong supporters and right partners of you as future IMU students. Education should be an encounter that encourages students to change themselves desirably. A "desirable change" varies for different persons and is difficult to define however briefly; we believe at least that your experience of studying at Iwaki Meisei University can help you realize your dreams and ambitions and become an individual who can both stand on his or her own feet and contribute to society. Iwaki Meisei University has been conducting technical support, open lectures, seminars held by the College of Science and Engineering, and collaborative and contract research with local corporations, contributing to the development of local society and deepening cooperation with local and private organizations. Additionally, we promoted the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology's High-tech Research Center Project for five years, from 1999 to 2003. We established the Cooperative Research Center to orchestrate our conventional activities in a constructive way to promote cooperation between local industry, academia, government, and the citizenry, supporting the latest technologies and rejuvenating our reputation as the top university in Fukushima Prefecture.
