We are a liberal arts community producing leaders, creative thinkers, and entrepreneurs of the future. Through service, internships, international travel, interdisciplinary studies, and athletics, our students experience a unique educational setting, unlike any other. McPherson College is a vibrant community of persons from diverse faiths and cultural backgrounds committed to its mission: To develop whole persons through scholarship, participation, and service. Over 700 students from 33 states and six foreign countries are enrolled at McPherson College, providing a diverse and welcoming community. Majors are offered in over 30 areas of study. Pre-professional studies and the unique option to create a student-designed major allow students to combine select courses throughout the curriculum to meet their specific personal and professional goals. Our four-year, career-oriented liberal arts approach also provides students with opportunities for internships and experience-based education. McPherson College's programs integrate career guidance and practical experiences into a traditional liberal arts curriculum that upholds the highest academic excellence standards. Our goal is to help students discern a vocational call consistent with their gifts and interests and to prepare them for a life of meaningful work. Community is central to McPherson College. The Royer Center provides a variety of help services and instruction in strategies for success at McPherson College. We offer subject tutors in our Tutoring Program, writing tutors in The Writing Center, and instruction in study skills and reading skills, through two courses, ID100 College Learning Skills, and ID106 College Reading Skills. Academic advising at McPherson College is an intentional relationship between advisors and students as they plan and reach their educational, career, and personal goals. Students at McPherson College have many unique opportunities to experience different cultures and environments through travel courses offered during the January term. They find themselves traveling to New York for theatre, China for philosophy and religion, Italy for art history, or the Dominican Republic to participate in service projects. Opportunities to live and study outside the United States are available to McPherson College students. One program students take advantage of is the BCA program. Rooted in peace and justice values, BCA promotes international understanding, awareness of global citizenship, and academic scholarship through educational exchanges. The programs are open to all majors. BCA has collaborated with international institutions of higher education to offer academic programs that educate students to make decisions for peaceful change in a complex and challenging world. The BCA "Peace and Justice" programs are designed to allow students to study with scholars actively seeking solutions to issues affecting the future of people, communities, and nations. Students studying with BCA will be able to deepen their understanding of other cultures and political perspectives while engaging with current world problems. BCA offers a series of international seminars for faculty and administrators to provide educators with an in-depth, intensive understanding of other societies and their political, economic, and cultural perspectives. BCA's international seminars are meant to contribute to faculty and administrators' professional development concerned with deepening their insights into other societies while contributing to their institutions' internationalization. Chartered in 1887 by leaders of the Church of the Brethren, McPherson College has a distinguished history of providing excellent liberal arts and career-oriented education shaped by its founding denomination's essential values. The College welcomes students of all cultural, economic, and religious backgrounds. With its 16 significant buildings and 27-acre setting, the present campus has matured into an institution of which its founders would be proud. To celebrate its 100th anniversary in 1987-88, McPherson College architecturally redesigned its entire campus, a factor that has improved the quality of living and learning at McPherson College. In the spring of 2000, state-of-the-art theatre and fine arts facilities were added to the instructional facilities, and Melhorn Science Hall opened its doors for fall 2001 classes. As a member of the North Central Association, McPherson College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Our teacher education program is certified by the Kansas State Department of Education and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
