    Malardalen University

Our 15 000 students read courses and study programs in Business, Health, Engineering, and Education. We research within all areas of education and have internationally outstanding research in future energy and embedded systems. Our close cooperation with the private and public sectors enables us at MDH to help people feel better and the earth to last longer. Mälardalen University is located on both sides of Lake Mälaren with campuses in Eskilstuna and Västerås. At MDH, the many study programs on offer fall within four educational areas: economics, health and welfare, teacher education, and engineering. Our students are attracted to the labor market. According to the Swedish Higher Education Authority, as many as 84 percent of MDH students find a job within their area of expertise within one year after their degree. This we achieve through high-quality education and close cooperation with the community. Many study programs are developed in conjunction with private enterprise and the public sector, and students get to experience working life already during their studies. At MDH, we carry out qualified research within six primary research areas. Embedded Systems are considered cutting-edge, both nationally and internationally. We focus on research that generates useful solutions for the development of society and offers research studies in Engineering and Technology as well as Health and Welfare. Our prioritized research areas are: Embedded Systems Innovation and Product Realization Future Energy Industrial Economics and Management Health and Welfare Educational Sciences and Mathematics Research at Mälardalen University is focused on strong research foundations, one center of excellence, and three development environments. The purpose is to promote dynamic research at the University and simultaneously make room for new ideas regarding internal and external coproduction between different research areas. Mälardalen University conducts excellent research in Future Energy and the Embedded Systems specialization and prominent research in Health and Welfare and the technological and engineering specializations in Innovation and Product Realisation. The primary task of the established research areas of the Educational Sciences and Mathematics, Industrial Economics and Management, along with Work-Life Studies is to provide a research basis for each subject of study at first-cycle and second-cycle levels. International activities are critical at Mälardalen University, MDH. The coproduction profile is as essential in the international activities as other areas, and the University works in a regional global context to achieve value and benefit for societal development regardless of the area. Internationalization takes departure in the belief that intercultural differences are part of everyday life and essential for the individual's intellectual development. MDH aims to offer education and research with a high international standard. Another aim is to make it possible for all students and staff to engage in intercultural exchange or activity. The University aims to increase the possibilities for cooperation and exchange with other countries for teachers, students, researchers, and administrative staff. For the students, this means studies or placements abroad and works in multicultural settings at home that will bring new experiences, increased intercultural competence, and a higher employability level. MDH has 128 agreements with 40 universities worldwide for teacher, student, and Ph.D. mobility. The agreements cover one or more subject areas and are mainly focused on mobility on different levels. Many agreements include joint curriculum development, joint or double degrees, cooperation with companies and organizations, the possibility to make degree projects abroad, etc. the University participates in several externally financed cooperation and mobility programs such as Nordplus, Linnaeus-Palme, Minor Fields Studies, ISEP, Science without Borders, ASEM-DUO as well as many of the big EU: s programs, Erasmus Mundus, Erasmus Life Long Learning Programme, Tempus, Marie Curie, Framework programs for research, etc. MDH recruits international degree-seeking students actively since 2011 when Sweden introduced tuition fees. The University offers a few Bachelor programs and about ten master programs taught in English. Programs offered to international students all have a strong connection to an international research environment. The University also receives a large number of international Ph.D. students. The University has made some geographical priorities when it comes to international recruitment and focuses primarily on India, Thailand, Brazil, Turkey, and Europe, focusing on the EU and the applying countries.
