The University of Ljubljana is the oldest and largest higher education and scientific research institution in Slovenia. University, with its rich tradition, was founded in 1919. It has more than 40.000 undergraduate and postgraduate students and employs approximately 5.600 higher education teachers, researchers, assistants, and administrative staff in 23 faculties and three arts academies. The central building, all three academies, and faculties are located in the center. Some of the most recent and modern buildings were constructed on the outskirts of Ljubljana, giving the university and its students a ubiquitous presence in the city. The University of Ljubljana is renowned for its quality social and natural sciences and technical study programs, structured by the Bologna Declaration. Our projects keep pace with the latest developments in arts, sciences, and technology at home and abroad. The University of Ljubljana is listed amongst the top 500 universities in the world, according to the ARWU Shanghai, Times THES-QS and WEBOMETRICS rankings. The University of Ljubljana is the central and largest educational institution in Slovenia. It is also the central and most significant research institution in Slovenia, with 30 percent of all registered researchers (according to the data from the SICRIS database). The University takes a central pedagogical position by performing public services in the areas of particular social importance, which ensure the preservation of the national identity. The University of Ljubljana has close ties with Slovenian companies and foreign enterprises. Our partners include multinational corporations and the most successful Slovenian companies. As we are fully aware of the importance of knowledge and skills in obtaining our financial sources, we are increasingly developing our market-oriented activities every year. The University of Ljubljana implements and promotes fundamental, applied, and developmental research. It is pursuing excellence and the highest quality, as well as the highest ethical criteria in all scientific fields and art. In these areas of national identity, the University of Ljubljana specifically develops and promotes Slovenian scientific and professional terminology. Based on its own, Slovenian, and international research, the University of Ljubljana (UL) educates critical thinking top scientists, artists, and professionals qualified for leading sustainable development, taking into account the tradition of the European Enlightenment and Humanism and about human rights. Special attention is dedicated to developing talents. The UL encourages interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary study, exchanges results of achievements in science and art with other universities and scientific research institutions, thus contributing to the Slovenian and world knowledge treasury and contributing to the transfer of these achievements among the students and other users. The UL cooperates with organizations from the economy and service in the public and private sectors, with state organizations, local communities, and civil society. With this cooperation accelerates the use of own research and educational achievements and contributes to social development.
