C.L.S. is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (S.A.C.S.) and has been certified by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School since 2003. Covington Latin has been profiled in U.S. News and World Report, featured as a "Cool School" by Fox 19 Cincinnati and ranked the #1 private school in Northern Kentucky by Cincinnati Magazine. Covington Latin School offers a unique program for academically talented students in the tri-state area. As its central purpose, C.L.S. aims to form Christian leaders by challenging its students to attain their academic, intellectual, social, and moral potential. The School's commitment to acceleration allows advanced fifth, sixth, and seventh-grade students the opportunity to learn in a safe environment with like-minded peers. For many of these students, acceleration offers a more challenging and rewarding educational experience than a regular grade process. Admitted fifth-grade students are eligible to enter either the Prep 7 year or Prep 8 year. Admitted sixth-grade students completing are eligible to enter either the Prep 8 or Freshman year. The decision to accelerate one versus two years is based on a joint determination between Latin School and each prospective student family. Admitted seventh-grade students are eligible to enter into the Freshman year. Covington Latin School admits academically qualified young men and women without regard to race, color, creed, ethnic or national origin. Our School Motto: Bonitatem, Disciplinam et Scientiam Doce Me (Teach Me Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge) proudly lays out our mission. We aim to form and develop the whole person - intellectually, spiritually, and socially. Covington Latin School is a Catholic school that provides classical liberal arts education to accelerated high school students. Qualified grade school students can advance one or two years to begin challenging secondary school coursework that corresponds to their considerable aptitude and talents. Many students find an unparalleled sense of belonging here - the distinctive nature of Latin School allows it to fit our students' needs in a way that perhaps no other school can. The record of our students and graduates speaks for itself. The median SAT® and ACT® scores of our students are far above the local, state, and national averages. Not only do 100% of our students go on to higher education, but many enjoy the privilege of enrolling in their School of choice and often with substantial scholarships that significantly reduce or eliminate their college financial burden. Covington Latin School is much more than an academic community. New students are an indispensable part of our 95-year history of tradition, excellence, and fellowship. The Latin School community not only has a significant presence here in the tri-state area; it has also spread all across the world. The Covington Latin School forms Christian leaders in the Catholic tradition by challenging its students to achieve their most significant spiritual, intellectual, and social development level. The School's philosophy, curriculum, and practices promote moral integrity and academic excellence, leading students to find fulfillment in a life of service to others and a continuing love of learning while embracing the gospel message of Jesus Christ. Jesus is the embodiment of the many leadership forms Covington Latin School strives to instill within our student body. At Latin School, we define leadership as one who can inspire others, live the faith, embrace challenges, express passion, achieve success, value tradition, and change the world. Extensive study and innumerable texts have been devoted to the ways that Jesus exemplified these various leadership attributes in His earthly endeavors and how His living presence continues to do so. Latin School students come to know Jesus and the many facets of His leadership through their theology courses in which they study the Church and how we come to encounter Him in the Sacraments. Students also invest time in building a relationship with Him in our weekly School Masses and in retreats offered at various times. They also learn to embrace His way of being a leader, that is, by being a servant when they are encouraged to be of service to one another and the wider community. Yes, Jesus is a great leader and our ultimate inspiration at Covington Latin School. May He continue to inspire our students as they, too, work to become the leaders of our local and global community View full school
  2. From our Founders' vision in 1970 to create an inclusive school where academic excellence is encouraged, leadership is cultivated, liberal arts are valued, and phonics-based reading is essential, Latin has educated thousands of students in the importance of learning, citizenship, service to others, hard work and Honor Above All. Latin is a safe place for children to express themselves and learn. Each student at Latin is known as an individual and as a member of our school family. Relationships are key. Our faculty and staff teach, coach, encourage support, and care for our students. Latin partners with parents to provide a moral community that counter-balances contemporary culture. We believe in keeping children appropriately young. Academic excellence and highly-skilled teachers are the foundation of our School. We value diversity and inclusion. Latin was the first independent TK-12 School in Charlotte to open integrated. Our mission is to encourage individual development and civility in our students by inspiring them to learn, encouraging them to serve others, and offering them many growth-promoting opportunities. Charlotte Latin embraces the development of personal honor as a lifelong pursuit in the building of character, and adherence to the Honor Code is required from all members of the school community. We honor one another and our gifts and accomplishments. The quest for excellence has characterized Charlotte Latin since its founding extends to all aspects of school life and is viewed as the effort to do one's best and seek to improve continually. This quest embodies the eternal spirit that characterizes our school community, and it is grounded in our commitment to creating an exceptional environment for teaching and learning. Charlotte Latin encourages the development of leadership as a lifelong characteristic of our students. She adheres to the concept of service to others (servant leadership) as the ideal model that best meets the needs of our school community, our nation, and the world. Respect is the foundation of the Charlotte Latin School community. We celebrate differences that include diverse people, cultures, and perspectives. Each person at Charlotte Latin is accountable for his or her actions. We all share responsibility for the welfare of the greater School community. Charlotte Latin leads by example. Our members are willing to do what is right and proper through the courage of their convictions despite possible consequences or others' opinions. Morally courageous people are willing to admit their mistakes, address injustice, and uphold the principle of "Honor Above All." The School's inclusive excellence culture is shaped by our dedication to providing each student with a culturally responsive education. Culturally responsive teaching begins with skilled educators. The School is incredibly proud of its demonstrated emphasis on attracting the most talented professionals to nurture the next generation of gifted scholars, community servants, and global leaders. This includes experienced educators as well as our Latin Fellows. The Latin Fellows program is a new and exciting diversity initiative that transitions aspiring educators from underrepresented groups into the classroom through a co-teaching experience. Teaching critical thinking skills and culturally responsive education are inextricably linked. We view culture as a strength that is useful for increasing the self-awareness and consciousness of others. What is more, we recognize that culturally responsive education – with its emphasis on learning partnerships, deep reflection, and increased opportunities for analyzing issues within the sociopolitical framework – is a perfect mechanism for promoting critical thinking. At Charlotte Latin, we trust development and believe it is our privilege to engage both the head and every child's heart. Every day. Set on 128 rolling, wooded acres, Latin's environment is an idyllic backdrop for children of all ages to develop into lifelong learners and thoughtful citizens who uphold our motto, Inlustrate Orbem, enlighten the world. Highly-skilled teachers, outstanding facilities, and a supportive school community are all focused on the success of each child's educational journey. Through coordination among the Lower, Middle, and Upper School divisions, Latin's curriculum is designed so that each successive grade adds to our students' mastery of skills. While Latin has high expectations for our students, we believe in educating the whole child and in providing a balanced learning environment that promotes the growth of each student's mind, body, and spirit. Throughout School, we encourage learning through problem-solving and project-based learning. Life skills such as time management, teamwork, and resilience are woven throughout the curriculum and reinforced explicitly through Middle School's Emotional Intelligence curriculum. Latin Leads with Honor, our school-wide leadership development program. Latin's flexible curriculum and expert teachers work together, allowing each child to be appropriately challenged and supported. Our academic program prepares our students to succeed in college by providing growth-promoting opportunities that foster a lifelong love of learning. In contrast, our social/emotional curriculum, focusing on service, prepares students to become active and engaged participants in life. View full school

  5. The Boys' Latin School of Maryland is the state's oldest independent, non-sectarian all-boys School. Students in kindergarten through 12th grade provide a rigorous, college-preparatory curriculum that focuses on building 21st-century skills and empowers each boy to achieve his true excellence. The Boys' Latin School of Maryland instills the core values of courage, integrity, and compassion in each boy as embodied in our motto, Esse Quam Videri (to be, rather than to seem). By understanding how boys learn best, our talented faculty fosters enduring personal relationships and empowers each student to strive for academic and personal excellence. Boys' Latin offers a rich and rigorous academic and co-curricular program that prepares young men for the 21st century's opportunities. The School welcomes students from diverse backgrounds and educates them in a supportive, student-centered environment. Boys' Latin is accredited by AIMS (Association of Independent Maryland & DC Schools) and a member of NAIS (National Association of Independent Schools) and IBSC (International Boys' Schools Coalition). As Maryland's oldest, independent and nonsectarian, college preparatory school for boys, Boys' Latin was founded on the belief in our motto Esse Quam Videri (To Be, Rather Than To Seem). More than 175 years later, each one of us - administrators, teachers, coaches, and students - continues to strive for and expect this TRUE EXCELLENCE from one another every day. Our collective success in this school-defining enterprise is evident in the corps of great men of character and talent who call themselves Lakers. Their life achievements have helped advance virtually every field and industry. One pioneered the use of penicillin. Another established one of our nation's most successful financial institutions. A recent graduate interned with NASA and is developing robotic devices, while another is determined to reinvent the hospitality industry. All are remarkable. It all started here. Much more vital than our facilities and student body changes is the national leadership role Boys' Latin assumes among independent schools. We have set standards for student academic self-confidence and emotional well-being, a model peer culture, and excellence in faculty support. Throughout our history, we have always known that our students come to our School with distinctive talents and differences in learning styles. We have always worked tirelessly to ensure developmentally-appropriate, culturally-attuned, and individually-tailored learning experiences for every boy since our beginnings - more than 170 years ago. Boys' Latin offers an environment like no other. Here, there is no one-size-fits-all program. Our students thrive in an environment where they have room to see where their academic curiosity takes them, flex their creative muscles, and discover talents they never suspected they even had. But perhaps what our boys value most of all: they become part of a unique lifelong brotherhood, exclusive in all the best senses of the word. Boys learn best by doing. That is why we focus on experiential, hands-on learning that appeals to different senses, involves action and movement, and produces tangible outcomes. A prime example is our trout release every spring. To learn about ecosystems, lower school students raise trout and then release their newly hatched babies into nearby Lake Roland waters. Boys' Latin approach to education is purposefully single-sex. Extensive research shows that boys learn differently from girls, and we know that boys learn best when their unique interests and distinctive talents are taken into account. Over almost 175 years, Boys' Latin has developed unparalleled expertise in creating a school community where boys thrive. At Boys' Latin, we honor how boys think and learn. We understand that boys need to know why something is important. In leveraging what motivates them, we prioritize developmentally-appropriate, hands-on experiential learning that appeals to different senses, involves action and movement, and produces tangible outcomes. Our educational programs are tailored to help boys gain confidence in their ability to learn and grow at their own pace in becoming men of character and values. They are taught, advised, and coached by faculty hired because they want to work with boys. With a student-faculty ratio of 7:1 and small class sizes, our School creates myriad opportunities for personal attention and individual interactions. Here, every boy is cherished and loved. Boys' Latin provides an atmosphere and tailored programming for boys to explore sensitive issues. In doing so, students here are not distracted as in traditional, co-educational environments by trying to live up to the gender stereotypes so prevalent in the media and society at large. Boys' Latin is committed to providing a stimulating, supportive and safe learning environment that encourages self-expression, respect for a wide range of interests and talents, and active participation in academics, the arts, athletics, and community service. Our students feel secure to take challenges and realize their boundless possibilities.
  6. Latin is one of the oldest independent schools in the city of Chicago. Latin School was formed in 1888 when a group of parents in Chicago enlisted Mabel Slade Vickery, a teacher from the East Coast, to take charge of a new, parent-owned school. The first class consisted of 10 boys, approximately ten years old. The school was designed to provide students with a rigorous college-preparatory education in the classical tradition, with a curriculum heavily influenced by Classical studies and the Greek and Latin languages' study, hence the name "Latin School. We often hear from students that Latin feels like home to them, and for years our alumni have reported the same. Fostering this sense of community is something our school has always valued. Since 1888, Latin students have been learning and growing in an environment where they feel comfortable, safe, and supported. This sense of belonging is a result of not only what we do at Latin, but how we do it. Our individualized approach to teaching and learning is evident at every level and in every area of school life. Truly knowing students for who they are and how they learn best allows teachers to create connections with kids that last long after graduation. And Latin's unique learning experiences allow students to develop critical skills that will serve them for a lifetime. For parents, the benefit is that you are not alone in this immensely rewarding but sometimes scary process of raising children. Teachers here are aware of just how talented and exciting your children can be, and they are just as interested as you are in developing each aspect of their personalities. It is what Latin does best. The Latin School of Chicago provides its students with a rigorous and innovative educational program in a community that embraces the diversity of people, cultures, and ideas. Latin inspires its students to pursue their passions and lead lives of purpose and excellence. Latin School achieves its mission by: Encouraging excellence in all academic and personal pursuits Creating an educational environment in which the pursuit of academic excellence and intellectual growth is complemented by a concern for the moral, physical, psychological, and aesthetic development of each student Developing and retaining excellent faculty and staff Recognizing the fundamental importance of honesty, civility, public service, and respect for others and the environment Cultivating resilience, independence, leadership, and moral courage Sustaining a diverse, inclusive, and multicultural community that affirms and values each individual Attracting dedicated families committed to the mission of the school Promoting programs in all divisions that integrate our students with the community Developing financial and physical resources to support the school's needs. Latin School intentionally seeks to admit students and families of various identities and backgrounds, working to integrate them into the school's vibrant culture. Our rigorous, inclusive core curriculum and extra-curricular programs prepare the school's diverse students for a highly competitive, global education. Students also regularly participate in community service, which nurtures leadership and character growth. Latin creates a highly talented, heterogeneous team of faculty, administrators, and staff by removing barriers to recruiting, retaining, and promoting these individuals. Latin also is dedicated to increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of school life. Currently, across all three divisions, 30 percent of Latin employees and 30 percent of students self-identify as people of color. Latin recognizes its social responsibility as a premier educational institution in the city of Chicago. Desiring a mutually supportive relationship with the broader community, the school endeavors to be a good neighbor and partner with people outside the school to fulfill its mission. Latin School of Chicago is resolved to strengthen its identity as an institution that shapes leaders prepared for a diverse world. A climate of inclusion, empowerment, equity, and justice are the bedrock of the school's academic and service endeavors in the 21st century and beyond. Selecting the best possible school is a necessary process, and the Office of Enrollment Management is committed to making every family's experience as personal, informative, and stress-free as possible. Our goal is to provide you with everything you need to determine whether Latin is the right school for your family. Our comprehensive admissions process allows us to get to know your student and ensure that they can feel successful and happy at Latin.

8. Founded in 1645, Roxbury Latin is not only the oldest School in continuous existence in North America; it is also, by my reckoning, the oldest boys' School on the continent. For all of our 374 years, we have offered a program explicitly designed for the boys in our care. Our work has been steady and sure. Of Roxbury Latin's singular qualities, however, none contributes more powerfully to the life of our School than the background and nature of our boys. Long before other schools sought to demonstrate some semblance of diversity, Roxbury Latin pursued and welcomed a student body reflective of Greater Boston's broad demographic. We offer admission without concern for a family's ability to pay. We provide whatever financial aid is necessary for a family to send their son here. Over the last few years, we have successfully extended our financial aid to encompass all the school program's complementary features—activities, trips, and counseling. This model makes for a dramatically democratic student body in which boys are measured by and appreciated for their talents, their character, their contribution to the life of the School, and their vibrant, eclectic personalities. Because Roxbury Latin has redefined accessibility and affordability in this way, boys from all socioeconomic groups have found a welcoming educational home here. Graduates will readily assert that the array of perspectives represented, the opportunities to know boys of entirely different backgrounds, the bonds forged from experiencing in common this crucible of intense academic challenges, and regular reminders of possibility and duty—all contribute to a climate in which boys come to love and respect each other. They are a band of brothers. We seek boys who will thrive in a challenging environment that emphasizes character development, academic excellence, and broad extracurricular involvement. Boys with outstanding talent in a defined extracurricular pursuit must still be able and eager to meet the School's academic standards to be admitted. Those with exceptional intellectual power must show their desire to stretch their interests and engage fully in the program. We actively strive for racial, ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic diversity in our student body and admit boys of different backgrounds. At Roxbury Latin, we care, most of all, what kind of person a boy is. We adhere to the original mission set forth by our founders: to prepare students intellectually, morally, and spiritually for service in the world as leaders of integrity and conviction. Our program's aspect supports our core values of honesty, responsibility, humility, respect, and concern for others. We expect a great deal from our students. Roxbury Latin's rigorous academic program trains boys in exacting analysis, disciplined reflection, aesthetic appreciation, and lucid expression. The faculty continually challenges students to hone their natural talents and encourages them to compete against their sense of excellence. Founded in 1645, Roxbury Latin is a boys' School by conviction with a curriculum tailored to boys' cognitive and emotional development. We build on their intellectual curiosity, self-motivation, and capacity for hard work. Ours is a democratically gathered community in which boys from a broad array of socioeconomic backgrounds and with different interests, talents, and perspectives are admitted and enrolled on a need-blind basis, regardless of their family's financial circumstances. Our small size ensures that each boy is known and loved. Boys learn to respect and applaud their classmates' successes—in sports, concerts, plays, debates, and publications. A brilliant performance at the piano has brought an audience to its feet just as quickly as a touchdown pass caught in the end zone. Boys also learn to recover quickly from the disappointment of losing a starting position in sports or a coveted stage role and find other ways to contribute to the team or the production. Our goal is to have our students emerge both competitive and compassionate: tough enough to withstand the rigors of competition and endure the present pain of hard work in order to experience the joy of achieving something great, as well as empathetic and responsive to the needs and misfortunes of others. 9. View full school
