Based on the spirit of forwarding Forever, embodied in the university's establishment, and with an emphasis on responsibility and honesty, we foster young people with the practical intellectual abilities appropriate for participation in the global society. Tokyo Keizai University continuously promotes self-reforms in positive response to maintain the challenging spirit and create new traditions. The root of Tokyo Keizai University goes back to Okura Commerce School, established in 1900 by Kihachiro Okura, an industrialist full of enthusiasm who started more than 200 enterprises in such industrial fields as construction, steel, fiber, etc., which played a crucial part in the development of the Japanese economy in the Meiji and Taisho eras. The school became Tokyo Keizai University in 1949 after a few name changes. Since its establishment, Tokyo Keizai University has been focused on developing young people who would be active on the international stage and has subsequently made inestimable contributions to the development of contemporary business in Japan. This challenging spirit characteristic of the university continues in its second century. Tokyo Keizai University nurtures talented individuals to have a challenging spirit and high ethical standards through "Practical learning backed by liberal arts education." The root of Tokyo Keizai University goes back to Okura Commerce School, established by Kihachiro Okura, an industrialist who built a conglomerate in a single generation. Despite being heavily damaged due to the Great Kanto Earthquake 20 years after its foundation in 1900 in Akasaka, Okura Commerce School was promoted to a higher commercial school and prospered, becoming well-known for its graduate's high employment rate. However, from the beginning of World War II and through to the end of the war, the school went through several changes. Newly renamed to Okura College of Economics, the school was devastated by the US military's bombardment destroying most of the school. To rebuild, the school was moved to its current location in Kokubunji. The school's staff and students were forced to rebuild the school independently, without the founder Okura's financial support. However, due to the committed and dedicated efforts of students, faculty, staff, and alumni, which we term "TKU Spirit," our university was approved for promotion to a university, and in 1949 we became known as Tokyo Keizai University. Since then, we have aimed to be an institution that carries out high-quality education supported by liberal academic research. Looking back on the traditions that we have come to embrace and the history of overcoming a problematic hardship, we aim to provide "Practical education backed by liberal arts education" Practical education that has been expanded on since the foundation of the Okura Commerce School, and liberal arts education, academism-oriented education that evolved post-war. Nittsu Gakuen Educational Corporation established Ryutsu Keizai University in 1965. At the time of its establishment, the Japanese economy was riding the rapid economic development wave and at the dawn of the age of mass production and mass consumption. Yet, distribution and logistics systems were under-developed and still immature, which became a significant deficiency issue in terms of economic development. The situation was of grave concern, as leaving these problems unresolved would have not only seriously affected the pace of economic development. However, they would have affected the quality of national life at various levels. With the above described social situations as background, the University was established to advance research in distribution economics, which was one of the immediate critical economic issues at the time, to train knowledgeable specialists in the fields, as well to educate persons capable of contributing to the betterment of social welfare at large. The University started as a single-department university with only the Economics Department of the Faculty of Economics. In 2006, the Department of Sports Science and Health was opened. Currently, the University has expanded into a medium-sized institution, has five faculties and eight departments, and offers five postgraduate courses. Our constant endeavor, founded in the principles and purposes of foundation, to identify future social needs and educate persons capable of making social contributions in various fields resulted in the University expanding in this manner. Today, Japan is becoming an aging society with a declining birthrate. Consequently, more emphasis is beginning to be placed on increased welfare coverage and sustentation of a spiritually rich lifestyle. Ryutsu Keizai University has two campuses located not too far from Tokyo: one in Ryugasaki City in Ibaraki prefecture and the other in Matsudo City in Chiba prefecture. Except for the Department of Sports Science and Health and the postgraduate courses, the University operates on what is known as the "Selective Campus" system, whereby essentially the same undergraduate courses are offered at both campuses from the first year through the fourth year. Gifu Keizai University was founded in 1967 in Ogaki in Gifu Prefecture in response to intense demands from, and with the active support of, the local government, educational sector, and business community. Now, over forty years later, the University encompasses two faculties, four departments, and a graduate school, offering courses in Business Administration Information Sciences and Welfare Policy, in addition to a Japanese language program for international students. Following Gifu Keizai University's mission to foster the development of capable, contributing members of society, we offer a broad range of options for both education and research. Gifu Keizai University now actively recruits international students and offers various study programs, including a one-year Japanese language course, a four-year undergraduate program, and a two-year graduate program. At Gifu Keizai University, we welcome all enthusiastic and motivated international students. The city of Ogaki - home to Gifu Keizai University - is located in Gifu Prefecture, in the middle of Japan between Nagoya and Kyoto's large urban centers. Ogaki has a population of around 150,000, with manufacturing as the primary industry, complemented by computer software's growing production in more recent years. Nestled near the Japan Alps, Gifu Prefecture has one of Japan's most attractive natural environments and is well-balanced between economic development and protection of these natural surroundings. The area is thus incredibly inspiring to the students of the University. Funding from Gifu Keizai University: Eligibility is limited to undergraduate students, postgraduate students, and students of the Japanese Language Program. Financial support may be available to undergraduate, postgraduate, and Japanese Language Program students of good character who have demonstrated excellence in their studies, but for financial reasons, would otherwise be unable to complete such studies. Public scholarship funding -- from the Japanese government, for example: The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) offers scholarship funding for undergraduate, postgraduate, and Japanese Language Program students through programs such as the Honors Scholarship for self-financed International Students. Gifu Keizai University provides dormitory accommodation for international students, sufficient to house all students wishing to use such accommodation. Students of the Japanese Language Program, however, are not guaranteed a place. The Gifu Keizai University Student Affairs Section has specialized staff available to assist international students with inquiries regarding their studies and everyday matters.
