Károly Róbert University College celebrated the 50th anniversary of its foundation in 2012. Time has matured the institution to observe recent years' achievements, consider envisaged concepts with the fulfilments both retrospectively and prospectively. After fifty flourishing years, the institution is ready to enter another prosperous era. Our mission is to coordinate the demands of an evolving environment and the continually developing abilities of the university college to provide stability. We aim to gain recognition nationally and internationally, just as Károly Róbert (Charles I of Anjou) – whom our institution is named after – enforced his authority in a reformed Hungary. Knowledge, innovation, and experience are our strengths, and our main task is to transfer and continually develop these skills. We are committed to sustain and reconsider the results of the last fifty years by considering new challenges. Károly Róbert University College, as a prominent knowledge center of the Northern Hungarian EU region, is the only agrarian and research (counseling) higher education institution to serve the achievement of competitive knowledge with a successively broadening training offer. Owing to our practice-orientated training programs, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and high-quality services, we can provide students with the best grounds for their prospects. We endeavor to perform our duties to our best knowledge and respectfully meet the requirements laid down in the next fifty years ahead of us. The teaching staff at Eszterházy Károly University Gyöngyös Campus are widely linked to the declared research and tender topics, in which the students are actively involved, too. In current research within the institute that affects different disciplines, outstanding collaborations are born, which the formulated indicators indicate results. The aim of the project is the development of the infrastructure related to the education, research, innovation, and cooperation of the business sector at Károly Róbert College, a predecessor institution of Eszterházy Károly University. The roots of higher education in Eger can be traced back to the beginning of the 18th century. Traditional instruction started in 1740, while the teaching of philosophy was launched in 1756, along with establishing the College of Theology in 1700. The implementation of theological, legal, philosophical, and medical training was followed by constructing an educational building capable of hosting a four-faculty university meeting all contemporary demands. While the Lyceum building complex, commissioned by Count Bishop Károly Eszterházy of Eger, has been dedicated to higher education purposes since 1774, the Ratio Education is issued in 1777 hindered the education promotion efforts. Instruction in philosophy and law was eliminated in 1784, and the seminary was transferred to Pest in 1786. However, Bishop Eszterházy remained faithful to his original goals. Following the death of Joseph II in 1790, he relaunched the philosophy and law training in addition to achieving the return of the seminary to the city. In 1828 Bishop László János Pyrker established the first Pedagogical College offering instruction in Hungarian, aiming at the training of primary school teachers (schoolmasters) and cantors, while providing students with an overall preparation for the pedagogical profession. The institution was transferred to the Lyceum Building in 1852, was complemented by a demonstration elementary school functioned as an Archdiocesan Teachers' Training College until 1948. Furthermore, at the initiative of Bishop Lajos Szmrecsányi and Canon Károly Subik since 1921, the Lyceum building has hosted a Four year Roman Catholic Vocational and Commerce School for Boys as well. Following the transfer of the Debrecen-based pedagogical institute established by Parliament in 1948 to Eger in the next year, the Lyceum has hosted the Teachers' Training College since 1949. During its more than fifty years of history, the Teachers' Training College became a significant contributor to college level teacher training in Hungary. Training over 30,000 professionals enriching Hungarian education and culture has offered educational programs encompassing virtually the total spectrum of teacher training schemes. In several instances, it has fulfilled a pioneering role in the launching of specific educational programs. The College has a national but international reputation attracting students from all counties of the country and from abroad. As a result of the restructuring efforts warranted by strategic plans prepared in the 1990s, the College experienced substantial changes. Due to a training profile expansion, the institution was transformed into a public college, meeting a broader educational needs spectrum. Following the requirements of the Bologna Process and the attendant integration into the European Higher Education Area derived from Hungary's membership in the European Union, the College's goal was issuing domestically and internationally acclaimed valuable degrees and diplomas via the continuous improvement of its educational services and the elaboration of transparent, flexible academic programs providing freedom of choice and meet student demands. On 1st of December 2015, the Parliament amended the Higher Education Act stating that with the merger of Eszterházy Károly College, Károly Róbert College of Gyöngyös, the Faculty of Applied and Professional Arts of Szent István University, and an upgrade in organizational status, the new institution continues its dedicated work under the name of Eszterházy Károly University from 1st of July 2016. Eszterházy Károly University, one of Hungary's most prestigious higher education institutions, provides intensive research opportunities, talent management, and quality education for future professionals in a friendly atmosphere and unique cultural environment. Our institution is proud of its past: due to the efforts of Bishop Károly Eszterházy, one of the oldest facilities in Hungary serving higher educational purposes was established in Eger in the second half of the 18th century. Nowadays, Eszterházy Károly University serves its students with various educational programs at four campuses located in four regions. In addition to the traditional fields of arts, sciences, and humanities, such as pedagogy, natural sciences, creative arts, and humanities, we provide undergraduate and graduate programs and training in fields that meet new demands for expertise while also creating pathways for individual success and fulfillment. Our goal is to provide state of the art knowledge to enable our students to meet today's labor market needs successfully. The research and knowledge centers under the Eszterházy banner facilitate academically engaging scientific research and practical needs of various organizations and companies of the region.
