      1. Kaposvár University is one of the largest universities in the Southern Transdanubian region of Hungary. Its establishment made Kaposvár the ninth university town in the country. The Hungarian Parliament founded Kaposvár University on January 1st, 2000, when operating faculties and colleges were integrated into Kaposvár. Currently, education and research activities are carried out in four faculties: (Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Economic Science, Faculty of Pedagogy and Faculty of Arts) and in five partner institutes: the Health Center, the PET Center, the Pannon Equestrian Academy, the Feed Crops Research Institute, and the Bőszénfa Game Management and Landscape Center, where the most modern equipment supports the scientific work. All of our students and teachers benefit from the direct results of the various merged higher education institutions: our work is carried out in an open and flexible educational system that efficiently meets the modern age's challenges and expectations. Based on decades of traditions, our University plays a determining professional, occupational and cultural role in the lives of the country and the region by offering versatile and colorful study programs with an easy transition among the degree studies. Our recent graduates from the faculties of Agricultural Science, Economic Science, Pedagogy, and Arts can meet better the requirements of the national and European labor markets due to our successfully operating high-quality education and research activities. We wish to continue to improve our University's education and research possibilities and support our students' competitiveness by improving our image and strengthening our foreign relations. At present, our University is a modern, dynamic and innovative institution of Higher Education where students can responsibly invest in their future. We hope that the information provided in our introductory brochure will be interesting for you and will open the way for our future cooperation. Kaposvár University, as an innovative institution, is committed to continuous improvement regarding the world's changing economic, technological, and scientific life. It can adjust to the labor market requirements, trusting that it will influence the requirements and trends of the labor market by transferring versatile and competitive knowledge to its students. Besides providing professional education, it emphasizes improving the overall skills, abilities, and practical expertise of its students. There are some standard features within the different departments and faculties. These are the practice-oriented training of professionals and the purposeful application of new and useful professional knowledge that grants a competitive edge to the University. Kaposvár University aims to establish comprehensive working relations (professional practices, research projects, conferences, etc.) with, amongst others, contributors to the business world, companies in the agricultural sector, institutions of education and culture, and art communication seminars. The University offers the students a vibrant, animated, active, and modern campus to enjoy their academic years. Only the organizer's imagination or capability can set limits to the cultural, sport, and leisure activities organized for our students. These activities include permanent and regular events, as well as occasional special activities. The art exhibitions, professional debates, concerts, and parties lasting far into the night are popular not only among the students of University but also among the inhabitants of the town. Fifty classrooms and 12 lecture halls can be found in the university buildings. The lecture halls can accommodate from 30 to 450 people. The Faculty of Arts building has 25 classrooms and two lecture halls with a capacity for 120 and 250 people. During 2004 and 2005, the University was expanded with new buildings, where in addition to the new school block, a multifunctional Student Centre can also be found. The Student Centre includes the new, multi-story university library, which houses approximately 250,000 documents stored, and the New Student Hostel, which can accommodate 350 people in double rooms with en-suite bathrooms, cable TV, and internet connection for each student. Also, a snack bar, computer and multimedia rooms, and a gym with a sauna make the students' life more comfortable. The center of the University is located at approximately eight-acres and is considered the most beautiful campus in Hungary. Established concurrently with the restructuring of the Hungarian higher education system, Kaposvár University was founded on January 1st, 2000, by the joint decision and fusion of its founder legal predecessors, integrating two faculties and two research institutes. Before their integration, the predecessor institutions constituting Kaposvár University had successfully cooperated in several research and education areas. Their cooperation's key motivators were the mutually advantageous complementarity of their scientific areas and the outstanding human and working relationship between teachers and researchers. With its human and infrastructure resources, the Feed Crops Research Institute found an ideal partner in the Faculty of Animal Breeding, complementing its scientific background in feed crops and other crop production. As a result of the institutional reorganization and to more accurately express the subject matter of education, research, extension services, and other services they provided, the Faculty of Animal Breeding was renamed to become the Faculty of Animal Science. In contrast, Csokonai Vitéz Mihály Teachers' Training College was renamed to become Csokonai Vitéz Mihály Faculty of Pedagogy. The plan for institutional reorganization prepared by Kaposvár University received a grade "A" (excellent) qualification from the Ministry of Education in 2000. The University drew up in the plan of institutional reorganization its vision for the future the educational, research, and services strategies required for its implementation, together with the necessary human resource and infrastructure development concepts. So far, the strategic concept has been completed in proportion to time. The documentation for establishing and launching numerous new majors in economic and social sciences, special needs education, humanities, and arts were prepared following the development concept of the new faculties. The grade "A" qualification of the institutional reorganization plan resulted in state-financed investment projects and a successful human resource development, which created the conditions for receiving an increased number of students and running new majors and faculties. A new educational building complex, a multifunctional student center, a new central library, and a new, modern student hostel for 347 students have been completed. The total surface area of the new buildings adds up to 14502 m2. In addition to the investment projects, Resolution No 218/2004 (VII.9.) of the Government created the Faculty of Economic Science and the Faculty of Arts at Kaposvár University due to the successful accreditation procedure. With these new faculties, the institution was expanded to become a university with four faculties (Animal Science, Economic Science, Pedagogy, and Arts). Economics education began at the University with the establishment of the Faculty of Economic Science. By further developing the resources which served the "economics in agricultural engineering" program previously run by the Faculty of Animal Science for many years, and in cooperation with Corvinus University, a finance and accounting BSc program has been launched, opening the possibility for expanding the educational spectrum with other programs in the field of economic sciences. The creation of the Faculty of Arts added an entirely new area of education to the university profile. Launching the design, teacher of visual communication, actor, applied scenery design, and photography programs contributes to forming a new rural center for arts education. The restructuring of higher education along the Bologna Process lines has been an excellent challenge for Kaposvár University. This mission has been accomplished since the University was given launch permits to convert all existing majors into BSc majors at each faculty. Moreover, it was able to add new programs to the existing portfolio. The Institute of Diagnostic Imaging and Radiation Oncology of Kaposvár University boasts a world-renowned teacher-researcher base. It applies imaging diagnostics to conduct a broad scope of animal science research to provide human diagnostic services, besides dynamically developing various other disciplines, such as soil-research, forestry-timber industry, geology, physics, archeology, to satisfy the ever-increasing demand with the cooperating institutions and companies. Its research staff maintains extensive international relations, wins worldwide recognition for Kaposvár University in education, research, and human diagnostics, equally. The institute possesses cutting-edge CT and MR equipment, linked quality human resource development with the implementation of a new oncoradiology building complex to provide the infrastructure for radiotherapeutic research and human diagnostic services. By its resolution 17/2004 (IX. 22.), the Council of Kaposvár University established the Health Center as of January 1st, 2005, which functions as a partly independent operating unit within Kaposvár University. The University Council decided to implement further development projects aimed at expanding the scope of educational, research, extension services, and other services following the University's strategy concept when it accepted to integrate as of January 1st, 2006 the Equestrian Academy and the Game Farming Center together with the Kiskunfélegyháza Red Deer Breeding Farm, which was returned to Kaposvár University from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. In 2006 the Hungarian Accreditation Committee completed the second assessment round of Kaposvár University, concluding with a grade "A" qualification. The University's dynamic development and its expansion to several academic fields were emphasized in the report. The infrastructural, personal, and material conditions for a high-standard educational and research activity have been successfully implemented. Excellent technical conditions ensure cooperation between faculties. The transition to the linear educational structure has raised fewer problems compared to other higher education institutions.
