Our recently completed library—a multi-million dollar, a state-of-the-art joint-use facility located on the north end of our campus—possesses high-tech capabilities. Its versatility as an educational, research-oriented, and cultural hub has brought Kainan to a new level of excellence. We have also constructed a new teaching building and a world-class gymnasium and have expanded our student dormitories. These projects have expanded and enhanced the resources available to our students, faculty, staff, and administration. They have also strengthened our bonds with people, businesses, and organizations throughout our community. Kainan enrolls thousands of academically talented and highly motivated students who are offered various undergraduate and graduate academic programs and majors. Our highly qualified and dedicated faculty members bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the classrooms through their teaching, research, and public service, broadening their students' intellectual horizons. Our campus is characterized by a diversified multicultural atmosphere with elite students and faculty from across the globe. Many Kainan students will have the opportunity to be exchange students at our highly acclaimed sister-school universities worldwide. This diverse environment cultivates a global perspective that enriches the Kainan University experience. Kainan University began life as the Kainan Commercial & Technical High School, founded in 1917 and soon earned the reputation of being the finest commercial and technical high school in Taiwan. However, it was not until January 1990 that the dream of our alumni for Kainan to be upgraded to a university began to be realized, with the establishment of a preparatory committee for the Kainan Institute of Technology. Since March 16, 2000, students had enrolled in ever-increasing numbers when our university received official sanction. In our first year, the university consisted of seven departments and some 600 students who began their freshman year. On April 13, 2006, Kainan received official accreditation as a full university. Today thousands of students are currently enrolled and can choose courses from sixteen different departments. Taiwan is starting to see the high value of a Kainan education as our graduates enter the workforce. We are proud to have blossomed into a fully accredited university with limitless prospects. Once a small technical school, today we boast faculty and visiting students from all over the world, an office for international programs, and relationships with prestigious schools abroad, as well as a vast and beautiful campus.
