As part of the University of Houston System, we offer more than 80 graduate and undergraduate programs online or face-to-face at UHCL and UHCL Pearland Campus. Since 2014, it has been even more comfortable to start here. That fall, for the first time since we opened in 1974, we offered freshman- and sophomore-level classes, giving students a chance to begin their college careers at UHCL without transferring from another institution. Today, more than 80 percent of our undergraduate population transfers from local community colleges. As we have grown, we have not changed the values behind each of the 75,000 degrees we have awarded in the past 44 years. Most importantly, while you are here, you will acquire the tools to make a real impact once you graduate and gain the confidence to unleash your potential. The University of Houston-Clear Lake is a student-centered, community-minded, partnership-oriented university that offers bachelor's, master's, and selected doctoral programs to enhance the educational, economic, and cultural environment of the Houston-Galveston metropolitan region. UHCL offers a wide range of traditional and nontraditional courses. But we know that many of you have jobs and families, making full-time classes difficult, and we are ready to accommodate you. Nearly 60 percent of our undergraduate students are here part-time. Our off-campus, online education, and extended and professional education offerings can accommodate your busy schedule, too. If you have done your shopping, you know UHCL is a great value: Our costs are considerably lower than many other public institutions in Texas. While we are more affordable than most colleges, this is still a significant investment. So if you are curious about how to pay for college, start with this: We awarded $50 million in scholarships and grants last year. In all, two out of every three students at UHCL received some aid package. Finances are a critical part of your college decision. A college education is one of the most important investments you will ever make, and a UHCL degree is one of Texas's best values. But we know that even when you have put in the work academically, achieving your college goals can still feel like a long way off financially. The Office of Student Financial Aid can help. There is a lot more to college than class, however. And where better to find that out just 30 minutes from the fourth-largest city in the U.S. and 30 minutes from fun in the sun on Galveston beaches? Hear a symphony in the Bayou Theater, try some chili at our annual cook-off, even apply to become a hawk - UHCL's school mascot, Hunter the Hawk. Put some life in your school-life balance. Your courses should be challenging, not overwhelming. We will always be here to help you through a tough patch. Student Services and Resources such as the Student Success Center, Math Center, and Writing Center, to name a few, provide one-on-one support if you need an extra boost.
