The oldest University in Stuttgart: the University of Hohenheim is unique in its strong specialization. Founded in 1818 after devastating famines, the University of Hohenheim engaged in intensive fundamental research. However, it has traditionally also been committed to developing innovative solutions for some of society's pressing problems. To do so, the University of Hohenheim engages in a combination of scientific disciplines unique among German universities. Today, the University of Hohenheim is the leading University in agricultural research and food sciences and strong and unparalleled in natural, social, business, economic, and communication sciences. The combination makes it possible to find solutions for many global challenges. This is why the University puts great importance on maintaining an international network with numerous strong partners. Strengthening research, anchoring the Bioeconomy as a university-wide interdisciplinary topic, and enhancing our scientific profile: The University of Hohenheim wants to put particular effort into these standards in 2013-2017. Doing so uses the unique opportunity provided by the fact that its three faculties - natural sciences, agricultural sciences, and business, economics, and social sciences - ideally complement each other in terms of their topics. These and other objectives can be found in the University's strategy paper for 2013-2017, the Structural and Development Plan (SEP). The University signed additional strategic goals with the University Funding Agreement (HoFV) for 2015-2020. This also includes calling for cooperative research training groups together with universities of applied science. The high rate of success in the state research program Bioeconomy, the multiple confirmations in four international rankings that agricultural research and food sciences are Germany's number 1 programs, and the complete reorganization of Hohenheim's scientific centers are several examples of what the University has accomplished since 2013. Awakening enthusiasm for research and building links among degree programs: With this vision, the University wants to use the unique opportunity provided by the fact that its three faculties - natural sciences, agricultural sciences, and business, economics and social sciences - ideally complement each other in terms of their topics and find common topics across faculty boundaries - for example in the area of Bioeconomy. These and other objectives can be found in the University's strategy paper for 2013-2017, the Structural and Development Plan (SEP). In 2015, the University signed additional strategic goals with the University Funding Agreement (HoFV) for 2015-2020. This includes the commitment to maintain the current number of university places. The Ars Legendi Prize for excellence in teaching, the new Master's program in Bioeconomy, the above-average satisfaction of our graduates in the most recent survey from 2014, and the continuously expanding package of measures to better organize studies - all of these are examples of what the University has already achieved since 2013. The teaching, experimental, and model institute started by King William I of Württemberg considered itself to be a place of innovation and ideas for society's needs from the very beginning. Its charge upon its founding was to counteract the devastating famines of the early 19th century radically. The innovative power, solidarity with the people around the world, and the spirit of offering basic research and practical solutions have stayed with the University of Hohenheim until the present. The course of study Agricultural Biology is unique in Germany. It acts as a bridge between Biology and the Agricultural Sciences. In Hohenheim, the teaching and research competencies of 70 fields of expertise within the Natural and Agricultural Sciences are combined. The students benefit from such a multifaceted, interdisciplinary teaching program. Graduates in this degree program can evaluate agrobiological procedures' appropriateness for a particular task and apply them. Also, they can develop application-oriented solutions for complex agricultural problems. The University of Hohenheim places great importance on awakening enthusiasm for research. The "Humboldt reloaded" project offers students the possibility to start researching early. The participants work in small groups and are closely supervised. In 2015, the University of Hohenheim was awarded the German Ars Legendi Prize for Excellence in Teaching for this project. The University of Hohenheim understands the integration of research and teaching as a requirement for excellent academic teaching. With the project "Humboldt reloaded," it positioned itself as one of Germany's top universities for research-focused learning even during the Bachelor's programs. Other projects make university teaching mobile, focus on developing skills in the early phase of studies, or promote entrepreneurial thinking and entrepreneurial culture. For the further strategic development of teaching, the University of Hohenheim wants to start with the students who are not even here yet: In the project "Student for a day," a hands-on format is being developed for the individual orientation of prospective students. The aim of the project Humboldt reloaded (HR) - "Humboldt reloaded - getting started in science "is to educate undergraduate students in and get them enthusiastic about scientific research. The Key is to introduce research-based projects for first and second-year undergraduate students as part of their bachelor-program. It is the intention to bring together students in small groups to teach them about the scientific method.
