There is no word to describe how grateful we are to God who has opened the way for SDH in Medan. It is a great hope that SDH continues to bless the wider community in Indonesia, especially in North Sumatra. We instill quality of Christian education in which we build not only cognitive and social growth of a child, but preeminently one’s spiritual growth. This holistic educational approach is feasible through fine, loving, Christian teachers and school administrators as well as home-school collaboration. With the grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ, we will proceed to continue the good work He has begun: to proclaim the preeminence of Christ. Throughout the years ahead, there are several school programs. The programs are designed delicately to engage students experiencing the blessings through learning. The students will participate in formative and culminating learning activities such as scientific research, chapel, field trip, Student-Led Conference, Mission Service Learning, and many else. Our aims through these activities are to nurture students to grow as people who have a personal relationship with God and who develop loving and respectful relationships with all people to provide opportunities for students to think critically, solve problems, and collaborate. To ensure all of these happen, the school is committed to being Christ-focused, Bible-based, and be a prayerful and worshipful community. We pursue to enable school community members to be respectful to others at all times to provide a secure school environment. The dream of our founders was to establish 10 units of Sekolah Pelita Harapan - An international type of school, 100 units of Sekolah Dian Harapan - a national type of school, and 1000 units of Sekolah Lentera Harapan - a subsidized school for underprivileged families all across Indonesia. We believe that parents are the prime educator for their children. Therefore, we would like to partner with them as the Second Home in educating their children. From a visionary beginning in 1993, Sekolah Pelita Harapan schools continue to develop as Indonesia’s leading Christian schools with a focus on academic excellence, personal growth, and spiritual development. Sekolah Pelita Harapan is a group of 5 schools in Jakarta, Indonesia which offers Indonesian citizens and expatriates a quality, international standard of education in which English is the language of instruction. Our schools are variously accredited with bodies such as the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), the International Baccalaureate Organisation and some are Cambridge Examination Centres. Most are also members of the Council of International Schools (CIS). Schools use either the IBO or Cambridge curricula which are employing the world’s best practice pedagogy and curriculum design. Sekolah Pelita Harapan schools offer a mix of the International Baccalaureate and Cambridge programs. In Lippo village and Sentul City, we offer the three IB programs – Primary Years (K-6), Middle Years (7-10), and Diploma (11-12). In Kemang Village and Pluit village, we offer Cambridge to Grade 10 then IBO Diploma at Grades 11-12. In Lippo Cikarang we offer the IB PYP and Diploma programs and then Cambridge in Grades 7-10. This mix is there for various historical reasons but we value both curricular for their focus on inquiry and learning how to learn (IB) and clear learning outcomes (Cambridge). We aim to produce academically strong students, with an international perspective who understand the learning process and are well equipped for life-long learning. The UPH Symbol depicts an open Bible with an eagle, strengthened by its Biblical foundation, ready to soar into the air.
