      1. This is the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg: 1,500 full-time and part-time students, over 10,000 alumni, and 81 faculty. A dynamic and diverse community of people working to enrich knowledge, build relationships, and grow opportunity in Western Pennsylvania and beyond. Nestled in Pennsylvania's beautiful Laurel Highlands, Pitt-Greensburg is surrounded by nature trails and the rich history of Westmoreland County. It is just down the road from uptown Greensburg's coffee shops and restaurants, art museums, theatres, and boutiques, and it is less than an hour's drive from Pittsburgh. The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg is a baccalaureate degree-granting unit and a regional campus of the University of Pittsburgh. As an integral part of a state-related institution, the Greensburg Campus provides educational opportunities to traditional and nontraditional students through curricular and co-curricular experiences focused primarily on the arts and sciences and some selected professional or pre-professional programs that are grounded in traditional liberal arts disciplines. As an undergraduate school within the broader University, Pitt-Greensburg's faculty places primary emphasis on teaching excellence while maintaining a commitment to scholarship and public service. A standard part of the undergraduate educational experience is acquiring a certain depth and breadth of knowledge in a specific discipline or area that defines a student's primary focus of study. Equally important is the opportunity for each student to acquire the fundamentals of a liberal arts and sciences education. The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg is committed to a General Education Program that will give its students a broader understanding of the human experience and the fundamental skills necessary for academic success and learning throughout their lifetimes. Pitt-Greensburg recognizes that good citizenship, civic leadership, and full participation in an information-based, global society are a function of educational excellence. Accordingly, in all curricular and co-curricular matters, including its unique academic village structure, the Greensburg Campus fulfills its mission by providing its students with opportunities to develop leadership, a sense of civic engagement and public service, global awareness, and a commitment to academic excellence. The Learning Resources Center, located in the Millstein Library Building (ML 250), is the Writing Center, Study-Skills Center, Disability-Resources Center, and Tutoring Center. Free tutoring in various subject areas is available. (Tutoring depends upon the availability of tutors and funding. The Center cannot guarantee that a tutor will be immediately available for the subject you have in mind.) Walk-in help with academic matters is also available. You do not need an appointment. However, when you stop by without an appointment, please bear with us. Dr. Lou Ann Sears, the Center director, maybe helping someone else or on her way to a meeting, etc. You are welcome to take the free handouts and use computers for paper writing and other academic pursuits. Choosing a college is a big decision. We know that. There is so much information out there, and every place seems like a great place. So how do you find an excellent place for you? The answer — look around. Explore every corner. Chat with students. Talk with alumni and professors. Sit in on a class. Experience campus. At Pitt-Greensburg, we make this discovery and admissions process easier by being there for you every step of the way. We are here to answer your questions — big and small. Should I live in a residence hall, or should I commute? Can I double major? Can I double minor? What scholarships are available to me? We have answered them all. And what sets us apart is this: once you are a student here, individualized attention does not stop. It happens in your admissions experience because it happens in your Pitt-Greensburg experience. In everything we do. In advising. In career services. In the classroom. In the residence hall. We are dedicated to helping you reach every milestone because every milestone will set you up to reach your most important goals — sometimes success you never thought you would achieve. We live for those moments. Those are Pitt-Greensburg moments. That is Pitt to the Power of One. Scholarships Your experience at Pitt-Greensburg combines the best of both worlds — a small school's intimacy and community with a large school's resources and networks — both adding to a world of possibility. A student-to-faculty ratio of 18 to 1 and an average class size of 21 enables Pitt-Greensburg's award-winning faculty to devote their attention to your success. Experiential learning opportunities and personalized support for STEM and Liberal Arts students ensure relevant preparation for a modern career and continued education. How does a group of students team up with the local community to build affordable houses across Westmoreland County? How does a hockey team gain 33,000 Twitter followers? How do you outrun a team of zombies chasing you with marshmallow-loaded Nerf guns? The answer lies in this exceptional community. When we talk about life outside the classroom at Pitt-Greensburg, it is hard to know where to begin. Because of the extraordinary things happening here each day are all worth sharing. It is this culmination of intellectual, professional, spiritual, and character development that happens in your four years that, when it comes graduation time, makes you realize that life you build in between class — studying with friends or chatting, rallying for a cause or running for student office — the sum of it all is what made your experience something exceptional.
