- Ysgol Eifionydd and present this handbook that provides useful information about the school. The school was established in 1894 and has a long tradition as a happy and successful establishment. Starting at a new secondary school is a big step for a child and the purpose of this booklet is to answer some of the questions that you may have. The school provides education for pupils between 11 and 16 years old and serves the towns of Porthmadog, Cricieth, and the rural villages of the area. Our vision is to ensure bilingual pupils that can confidently achieve the highest possible standards through continuous effort, co-operation, and respect for others. Our message to our pupils is outstanding! The school prides itself on its good relationship with parents. An essential element in the school’s underlying philosophy is that no pupil can succeed fully without there being complete understanding and co-operation between school and home. An annual calendar of events is given to parents and additional information is provided for special events. Parents who wish to see the information concerning their children are welcome to do so. We ask parents to make an appointment beforehand for this purpose. Regular meetings are held so that parents can discuss their children’s progress with their teachers. If parents feel they need more information then arrangements can be made via the School Office. The school offers a curriculum that ensures a balance between the curricular areas referred to in the National Curriculum, and the cross-curricular elements such as Personal and Social Education for every pupil in the school. Special support is offered to those pupils with special educational needs. The school has no religious affiliation and religious education is provided by the agreed syllabus. If a parent has genuine grounds for objecting to their child receiving religious instruction or attending morning assembly suitable arrangements can be made. View full school
