Located in the Ruhr metropolis' heart, the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) is one of Germany's youngest and broadest universities. The courses range from the humanities and social sciences over economics and business studies to the engineering sciences and natural sciences (including medicine). It is also well known in the international scientific community. The University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE), one of the largest German universities, is committed to meeting its social responsibilities. During the process of changing over to bachelor/master courses of study, we are rigorously pursuing a policy of quality standard conformance and aiming to create the best possible conditions for study. We consider our students' and employees' heterogeneity as a unique opportunity and promote diversity via special management measures. Here we understand 'diversity' as a contribution to educational equality and academic excellence. Gender equality is an integral part of these endeavors. Within the university management system framework, we aim to maintain an appropriate balance between a central profile and a decentralized system of self-governance and self-responsibility. The instruments of target and performance agreements, budget management, cost control, and staff development serve our stringent quality assurance policies. As a member of the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr), we work together with the Ruhr University of Bochum and the Technical University of Dortmund to coordinate our efforts to encourage the Ruhr as a science region, creating a unique profile, setting priorities, and establishing scientific and organizational networks. Walking across the two campuses of the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE), you meet scientists and students from all over the world. You find yourself in a big melting pot, the melting pot UDE. The university's academic spectrum ranges from the humanities, social and economic sciences to engineering and natural sciences (including medicine). The main research areas at UDE are made up of the four interdisciplinary research clusters that form our core research portfolio plus a broad range of other specialized and interdisciplinary topics. Our researchers and research groups' impressive achievements are evident in the quantity and quality of our collaborative research centers, graduate schools, other peer-reviewed programs, and internationally recognized awards and accolades. The International Office is the central service office for international contacts of the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE). We offer support and guidance for international students, postgraduates, and other interested applicants in our courses of study. We mainly advise them on matters of application and enrollment, and we are in charge of all matters concerning international students' admission. The International Office also counsels UDE students interested in studying abroad or looking for international scholarships. We are happy to help foreign scholars and inviting UDE institutes to deal with bureaucratic obstacles and everyday problems. We offer counseling and support to individual UDE professors, research groups, and departments by collaborating between universities, by establishing contacts with partner universities and with international projects.
