In 1908, having realized the importance of educating women to contribute to our country's self-reliance, the late Dr. Cho Dong-Shik, also known as Choon-Kang, founded Dongwon Girls' School (Eui-sook). This was a time of impending crisis for the nation because Japan was threatening the independence of Korea. The late Dr. Cho believed that the enlightenment of the people through education was a sine qua non for survival in such a situation. Dongduk is proud to have contributed to the nation and its people by educating women who have been leaders of the movement to restore the nation's independence. It also takes pride in having a capable, active body of graduates, many of whom are in leadership positions in all walks of life In Korea and abroad. Our educational goals have always endeavored to produce informed women with high moral standards because, in every era, effective education requires the whole person's development. When ethics and morality are deeply corrupted, insistence on human values and the strengthening of morality, which the late Dr. Cho emphasized and practiced, must necessarily be Dongduk's educational goals. The Dongduk family will endeavor to prepare the new era in which a new nation and history of the Korean people will be brought to fruition. Also, DWU consistently endeavors to develop customized curricula to meet each student's academic and professional needs through personalized one‐on‐one instruction. A school campus is an important space where lectures, studies, practices, and student activities occur. Dongduk Women's University established Special Campuses that are critical locations for relevant majors, providing functional convenience. Also, the university is creating a beautiful campus that may potentially become a local landmark. With 100 years of tradition as the educational cradle for Korean women, Dongduk Women's University aims to prepare our students for an innovative future. By providing forward-looking educational programs and curricula with excellent and fully dedicated faculty, students build their pride and confidence as part of the Dongduk community.
