- At Ysgol Dinas Brân we aim to ensure that all our children succeed in the happy, caring, and secure environment we offer. We are very proud of the standards we achieve at the school our last Estyn report (2012) described us as “providing an outstanding range of learning experiences” and having a “very high level of care and support for pupils”. In recent years exam results have placed us amongst the highest achieving schools across Wales our GCSE results were the best we have ever achieved currently placing us in band one. We are delighted with this but are aiming to improve further. We are a popular, forward-thinking community school with around a thousand students (admitting 200 in year 7) and a Sixth Form of 150. We are also a bilingual school with around 10% of students studying through the medium of Welsh. Our motto is “Success Through Effort” and we firmly believe that we should aim for all students to achieve their very best academically through the highest possible standards of teaching and also in extracurricular life, whether through sporting, musical, dramatic pursuits or the many and varied visits and activities available at the school. Our philosophy is simple we expect each student to work hard and behave well and show politeness and courtesy to others. Our successes are founded on a bedrock of strong pastoral care. We support all students as individuals, be they gifted and talented or students with specific learning needs with a broad range of subjects. All are supported by a Form Tutor, who works closely with a Learning Manager and an Assistant Learning Manager to provide the best possible care for each child. We believe firmly in strong active relationships with parents and carers and welcome all contact and feedback. We also work closely with outside agencies including the Youth Service, the police, Careers Wales, and several others to provide a full range of educational services. There are several things which make our school distinctive and diverse we offer a large range of subjects at both Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5. In a rich and diverse curriculum, our provision includes a unique, exciting program of music at Key Stage 3 and a vast number of sporting and extracurricular pursuits. We are proud of our bilingual status where parents can choose a preferred medium for their child’s education. We relish the strong international links we have established over several years with schools abroad. Llangollen is, of course, home to the International Eisteddfod and we enjoy close relationships with the musical, artistic and dramatic communities that contribute to this major event.
