Daugavpils University was founded in 1921 and today is the most prominent regional state university and the only university in Eastern Latvia. DU offers to achieve knowledge in 5 faculties and 53 study programs. DU scientists' main research disciplines are Literary Science, Linguistics, History, Biology, Environmental Sciences, Physics, Economics, Sociology, Psychology, Education, and Art. Knowledge-based society forms a socioeconomic environment of Latvia and Daugavpils, and the university must be a core promoter of the development. Both academic personnel and students should be keen on new knowledge, work hard for research, and discover and actively pass on society's acquired cognitions and results. Therefore, DU motto is Scientia Vinces, which means "Through knowledge, you win." Our main goal is to become a modern scientific university, which educates students and society in general! DU has long traditions of organizing various conferences, e.g., Scientific Readings, Slavonic Readings, various thematic conferences in all branches of science. DU has the advantage of being located in a multicultural environment. We cooperate with various institutions worldwide. Daugavpils University students have many opportunities to study and practice abroad, getting extra experience, and a new view on knowledge received in Daugavpils University. Students can use Erasmus + mobility options to study for one or two semesters at one of the European partner universities of Daugavpils University. Students can receive Else Marie Tschermak foundation's funding to study or participate in different high importance activities abroad. Our students have a wide range of possibilities to fulfill themselves not only in studies but also in different activities, working in Students' Council, Student's Journal "Lai Top!", Latgale Students' Centre, joining The Association of Young Scientists of Daugavpils University "DUJZA," Art Teacher Union, Health Care Centre, Natural Research and Environmental Education Centre. Students can also obtain a foreign language, take part in students' dance ensemble "Laima," and do sports at the Sports Complex of Daugavpils University.
