At Canterbury School, we're artists, athletes, and scholars. Since 1977, Canterbury School has offered exceptional college-preparatory experiences and enriching students' intellectual, moral, and spiritual growth opportunities. Our close-knit community of dedicated teachers and supportive families have created meaningful connections, enabling our students to flourish. At Canterbury School, we're artists who dance in the halls, listen to the radio, and describe, in animated detail, the movie we saw this weekend. Arts are not contained only in books. They permeate our classrooms and lives. At Canterbury School, we're athletes who learn valuable lessons from being on a team. Everyone plays, everyone tries, everyone learns, and everyone fails and succeeds. To us, "team" means family, friends, community, and fellow man. At Canterbury School, we're scholars who strive to broaden our global perspective. We connect our classrooms to grasslands, central lands, cities, and nations, next door or through an open door. And, we are all too happy to fan the flames of life-long learning. Our connections' threads are healthy, varied, unique, and beautiful, forming a clear pattern that always extends in new directions. Canterbury is continually adding to this rich tapestry of challenges, ideas, inspiration, and potential. The mission of Canterbury School is to maximize the potential of young people by providing a challenging, enriching, and supportive learning environment in which students build the foundation for a life of purpose, passion, and meaning. While Canterbury's structure has changed since 1977, the school remains committed to the four founding pillars of intellectual, physical, social, and spiritual development. To that end, Canterbury has created an educational experience founded on the following set of core beliefs: A strong and broad base of knowledge and a genuine love for and appreciation of learning is best accomplished through a challenging college preparatory curriculum. Student learning is built on relationships – student to student, student to teacher, parent to teacher, and school to the community. Character development is grounded in the Christian principles of compassion, forgiveness, love, and kindness in support of each family's faith. Participation in the arts and athletics is essential in the development of a well-rounded individual. We believe our school community and its members are enriched by understanding and respecting all people's uniqueness. Thus, we actively seek to create an inclusive environment that emphasizes the importance of embracing our differences. We believe all voices in our community should be valued, appreciated, and respected. Similarly, our Chapel Program requirements in religion, diversity, and ethics and the school's commitment to the Positive Coaching Alliance – among many other examples – work together to form a rich, ever-present surround of attention to the development of the moral and personal aspects of our students. Whom our students become as individuals are just as important to us as what they can accomplish. Finally, our Signature Programs at every grade level, our regular Chapel gatherings, and service work in the greater Fort Wayne area provide shared experiences for our students that help them develop an awareness of and responsibility to the Canterbury community and to the broader local and global communities of which they are apart. The ability to leverage their personal development in the service of endeavors greater than themselves is our constant hope for our students as they find their places in the world.
