Bronte College is a private International Baccalaureate (IB) World School offering Grades 9 to 12 for day and boarding students. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, Bronte College encourages a collaborative learning environment that focuses on inquiry-based learning rather than fact memorization. By satisfying the requirements of the Ontario Ministry of Education Curriculum guidelines, all Bronte students will graduate with an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and have the option of pursuing the IB Diploma Programme (DP) in Grades 11 to 12 or the AP Program in Grade 12. Students enrolled in these enriched programs may be granted university credits upon the successful completion of Grade 12 courses. As a requirement set out by the Ministry of Education, students must pass The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test to graduate from secondary school. The literacy test is created and assessed by the EQAO (Education Quality and Accountability Office), an arms-length agency of the provincial government that evaluates reading, writing, and comprehension skills based on the Ontario Curriculum's expectations language and communication up to and including Grade 9. To prepare students for successful completion of the OSSLT, Bronte College holds a Mock Literacy test before the OSSLT. Students who do not pass the Mock Literacy Test successfully will receive remedial help to prepare for testing. For more information on the OSSLT, As part of graduation requirements, students must complete a minimum of 40 hours in community involvement activities. The purpose of community involvement is to encourage students to develop awareness and understanding of civic responsibility and contribute to supporting and strengthening their communities. These activities may be completed at any time during their years in the secondary school program. International students may bring community service hours with them for partial credit, provided the type of community involvement meets the criteria. Community involvement may occur in a variety of settings, including businesses, not-for-profit organizations, public sector institutions (including hospitals), and informal settings. Students may not fulfill the requirement through activities that are counted towards a credit (cooperative education and work experience, for example), through paid work, or by assuming duties usually performed by a paid employee. University acceptance is based on the average of the top six (6) Grade 12 pre-u courses, including prerequisite courses necessary for specific programs. Below is a chart that outlines both compulsory and suggested electives for Arts, Commerce, and Science. New students admitted to Bronte College, and returning students must pay all fees in advance as per the Fee Schedule and agreed on Payment Option. The obligation to pay all fees is unconditional. When a student has acquired Student Visa or Study Permit approval from the Canadian Immigration Authority, no refund of fees paid will be granted. When a student is unable to obtain a valid student Visa or Study Permit to enter Canada to study at Bronte College, he or she will receive a refund of the fees paid less a CAD$250.00 administrative fee, the application fee, and Notarized Custodianship Declaration fee. To request a refund, the student must return all original Bronte College documents and the original rejection letter from the appropriate government authorities. When a student has been admitted to Bronte College who does not require a Student Visa or Study Permit or is a returning student and: a.) withdraws the admittance at least three (3) months before the admitted month, fees paid will be refundable less a CAD$250.00 administrative fee, the application fee, Notarized Custodianship Declaration fee, and the Annual School Registration fee. b.) withdraws the admittance less than three (3) months before the admitted month, 50% of all fees are due and payable and will not be refunded. c.) withdraws at any time after the start of the admitted month; the parents or guardians or students are liable for payment of all fees and will not be refunded.
