  1. Berry College is a comprehensive liberal-arts college with Christian values. The college furthers our students' intellectual, moral, and spiritual growth, proffers lessons that are gained from worthwhile work done well, and challenges them to devote their learning to community and civic betterment. Berry emphasizes an educational program committed to high academic standards, values based on Christian principles, practical work experience, and community service in a unique natural beauty environment. Berry's goal is to make an excellent private liberal-arts education accessible to talented students from various social and economic backgrounds. Our first responsibility is to provide an education in the liberal arts and professional fields to meet our students' intellectual, moral, and material needs, and we dedicate ourselves and our academic program toward fulfilling this responsibility. Research, publi¬ca¬tion and other scholarly activities are valued and are expected to contribute to good teaching by the faculty. In keeping with this expectation, our faculty and staff dedicate themselves primarily to teach effectively and to inspire students to academic excellence. An essential part of a sound education is exploring religious faith and relating faith with learning responsibly and intelligently. We dedicate ourselves to providing these opportunities. The college is dedi¬¬cated to the inter¬denomi¬national Christian values on which it was founded and welcomed individuals of diverse backgrounds into the campus community. Worthwhile work complements knowledge and faith in building character. We dedicate ourselves to providing this opportunity. An essential part of higher education is the opportunity to participate in the college's internal affairs and governance. We dedicate our¬selves to providing this opportunity for faculty and students. These dedications guide Berry's faculty, staff, trustees, and students toward a realistic and balanced educational program. Our concern for the individual permeates our principles. The ultimate aim of Berry is service to humanity through persons who find here both inspiration and preparation as best expressed in Berry's motto, "Not to be ministered unto, but to minister." Berry College is fortunate to have a campus of significant beauty and scope. While some facilities have specialized use, all buildings and land belong to the college, and the college is determined. The primary purpose of the college's land and facilities is to serve its academic and operational activities. College-sponsored events are given the highest priority for facility reservations and use of space. Some college facilities are available for public gatherings of a non-profit, civic, social, or educational character in a responsible manner, without cost to Berry College or interference with college activities. The college reserves the right to decline any public request for the use of space. While general use policies are listed here, facility costs and additional policies for specific facilities may apply and communicate through the reservation process. Alcohol is not permitted for any event on campus. All policies apply to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests of the college. The college expects courteous behavior towards all campus community members and respectful use of the college's facilities. The Office of Business and Finance supports the mission of Berry College by providing the campus community with services from our financial, administrative, technological, safety, legal, physical plant, and land resources departments. Our goal is to provide quality professional service to our students and their families, faculty, and staff, and community. Our offices are dedicated to helping Berry students with the daily business of higher education. At the same time, we work to build, enhance, and safeguard the physical, financial, and human resources of Berry College. Berry College's beautiful and expansive campus attracts joggers, hikers, cyclists, and horseback riders from Rome and beyond. We welcome you to our property and hope you enjoy seeing the rolling hills, lovely vistas, and plentiful wildlife while you are with us. The Viking Trail, a three-mile paved trail for walkers, runners, cyclists, and rollerbladers, runs between the main campus and the mountain campus. It is one of our most popular trails and is open during daylight hours from the Ladd Center to the mountain campus entrance. Designated trails for horseback riders, mountain bikers, joggers, and hikers also have been established. Click the links at left for maps of specific trails. First and foremost, our goal is to provide an array of recreational opportunities for our students and Berry community members. Also, protecting and conserving the 26,000 acres of land is of utmost importance. To that end, we ask that all visitors adhere to specific recreation use policies established to protect the campus's beauty and promote the safe use of the property. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) manages the 16,000-acre Wildlife Management Area on our campus by agreeing with Berry College. DNR provides comprehensive services that include public safety, fire suppression, and managed hunts on Berry property. During these hunts held only on designated days, walking, cycling, and horse riding trails are closed (except the Viking Trail). View full university
