  1. California State University, San Bernardino, is a preeminent center of intellectual and cultural activity in Inland Southern California. Opened in 1965 and set at the foothills of the beautiful San Bernardino Mountains, the university serves more than 20,000 students each year and graduates about 4,000 students annually. According to the Collegiate Learning Assessment, the "value-added" by a CSUSB education ranks in the top 4 percent in the nation, a sequence of tests used by hundreds of colleges and universities nationwide that measure student learning in the freshman and then in the senior year. First-to-second year retention rates are the third-highest among all C.S.U. Campuses. CSUSB reflects the region's dynamic diversity and has the most diverse student population of any university in the Inland Empire. It has the second-highest African American and Hispanic enrollments of all public universities in California. Seventy percent of those who graduate are the first in their families to do so. The university offers more than 70 traditional baccalaureate and master's degree programs, education credential and certificate programs, and a doctoral program. In recent years, CSUSB added its first doctorate (educational leadership), engineering program (computer science and engineering), and M.F.A. programs in creative writing and studio art/design. Every CSUSB academic program that is eligible has earned national accreditation. The university also is home to the California Professor of the Year (Stuart Sumida). Cal State San Bernardino has seen records in enrollment, faculty and students' diversity, grant and contract funding, overhead funds, fundraising, and international program development. CSUSB ranks as the second-safest among all 33 public universities in California. Cal State San Bernardino is listed among the best colleges and universities in the western United States, according to The Princeton Review, Forbes, and U.S. News and World Report, in their respective annual rankings. It also is part of the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, With Distinction – the highest federal recognition a college or university can receive for its commitment to service-learning and civic engagement. Also, it is a "Military Friendly School," according to G.I. Jobs. European C.E.O is named CSUSB's College of Business and Public Administration. Magazine as one of the four most innovative business schools in the U.S. and among the top 18 in the world. The Sierra Club is named CSUSB, one of "America's Coolest Schools." The university has an annual statewide economic impact of more than half a billion dollars, along with more than $32 million in yearly statewide tax revenue. At CSUSB, we define the future! Our university is a resource to the region, bolstering social and economic prosperity through educational and cultural offerings. For more than 50 years, we have produced teachers, entrepreneurs, scientists, business and civic leaders, and many other professionals who have impacted the Inland Empire's fabric. We are proud of our rich tradition of providing quality education in a welcoming atmosphere that reflects the region's dynamic diversity. Our outstanding faculty are leaders in their chosen fields, highly recognized for their academic contributions, research, and excellent teaching. Our experienced staff is caring and responsive, providing essential services and support for nearly every university aspect. Committed to student success, we are united by a shared passion for transforming lives. CSUSB offers an environment that challenges students in and out of the classroom, helping them expand their academic and social horizons, interact with people from diverse cultures, be creative, and ultimately succeed. Enrollment at our San Bernardino and Palm Desert campuses remains high. Beyond attracting students who see CSUSB as a first-choice destination, we seek to ensure they continue their education, graduate promptly, and launch into successful careers. They are the graduates who will become tomorrow's leaders. Each year a limited number of part-time, on-campus positions are made available for eligible CSUSB students. Such employment not only provides students with a means of earning money, but it also provides students an opportunity to develop new skills and positive work habits, which will ensure professional success. Student Assistants (S.A.), Bridge, and Non-Resident Alien (N.R.A.) positions are considered part-time, temporary employment. The hiring supervisor determines the hourly wage and length of employment by the workload and availability of funding. Job duties will vary depending on the department and supervisor. Students are expected to execute job responsibilities satisfactorily consistently. The Office of Academic Research provides strategic planning and assistance to promote faculty and student research, scholarship, and creative activities that support the university's educational and service mission. Team members collaborate with disciplines and departments campus-wide and with external community partners in the submission and management of external grants and contracts. Oversight is provided to ensure the highest ethical and regulatory standards conduct that research and sponsored programs. The office also oversees and supports the integration of research education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Other focus areas include the management and facilitation of the internal research award programs, campus Centers, and Institute processes, with oversight for entities that report centrally and technology transfer processes. In collaboration with the Office of Community Engagement and the Teaching Resource Center, leadership and support are also provided for the campus' Faculty Center of Excellence. View full university
