Consequently, Baker College maintains campus facilities with state-of-the-art classrooms and hands-on laboratories. It provides faculty and students with high-tech, advanced technological tools for teaching and learning. For more than 100 years, Baker College has been meeting students' and employers' needs by providing quality academic programs and producing skilled and proficient graduates. We remain committed to serving our communities to advance their economic growth and sustainability. We are sure you have heard it all before: to get a good job, you will need some education after high school. With more than two-thirds of jobs requiring a post-high school education, a promising career is going to depend on getting the right education - but it might even be easier than you are expecting. Even if many jobs require a post-high school degree, not all of them require the typical four-year education. We offer certificates, associate degrees, and bachelor's degrees in a wide range of disciplines, perfect for securing you the job you want in whatever field you are interested in. From engineering to education, from information technology to health science, and everything in between, we can get you the perfect amount of education to start you down the right path. No filler classes. No wasted time. Just the classes you need to focus on your goal: starting a great career in the field you want. Explore our undergraduate programs today and see how close your dream career can be. Get in, get out, and get going. We have one mission: to succeed. The only way we accomplish it is by helping you become successful. Getting an education can change your life, but it should not have to mean putting your life on hold. Our goal is to provide you with a high-quality education at Baker College that will help you get out there and start making meaningful progress in your career from day one. Baker College has been around for over a century, so we know how to change with time. We only offer programs for career fields showing high rates of growth. Our programs are shaped by industry leaders, ensuring that our students enter the workforce with the skills and education today's employers want. We also understand that earning a degree is just one of the many demands in your life. Whether you can commit to being a full-time student at one of our many Michigan campuses or you need the option to take classes online, Baker offers flexible scheduling so you can get an excellent education on your terms. While we are Michigan's largest independent, not-for-profit College, you will not feel lost in the crowd. Each of our campuses has a very personal and friendly atmosphere, and we are dedicated to keeping class sizes down so that every student gets the individual attention they need. Baker College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The HLC allows institutions three options for maintaining accreditation. Baker College chose the Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) Pathway in 2006, which focuses on quality assurance and institutional improvement. The AQIP Pathway helps institutions achieve continuous quality improvement processes by providing a framework for the College to examine critical processes and analyze, understand, and explore opportunities for improvement. The AQIP Pathway follows an eight-year cycle. The AQIP Pathway requires each institution to maintain three short-term action projects on an annual basis. The College identifies action projects that will have the most impact on quality improvement for the institution. Institutions are required to submit an annual Action Project Update describing their progress on at least one project per year to the HLC. This update is evaluated by an HLC peer reviewer, who provides feedback and guidance on advancing the project. Modern education with a history of excellence. Putting students first for over a century. The beginnings of Baker College trace back to the turn of the 20th century, with the founding of Muskegon College by Woodbridge Ferris—who later became Governor of Michigan and then a U.S. Senator. Just two decades later, Eldon E. Baker—an educator who built a highly successful business college in Winfield, Kansas—moved to Flint and founded Baker Business University, which stood at Court Street and South Saginaw. In 1965, these two institutions came together under a single academic group headed by Robert Jewell of Muskegon. Throughout the years that followed, the schools continued to thrive, and the group began to expand its outreach through the acquisition of other schools and locations. Today, we are known as Baker College, the largest not-for-profit, independent College in Michigan. We have over 23,000 students in more than 100 programs, taught at nine on-ground campuses, multiple extensions campuses, and online. Most importantly, we remain dedicated to our original mission: to provide quality higher education and training that enable graduates to be successful throughout challenging and rewarding careers.
  3. Baker is a private university that educates traditional and nontraditional students through small classes, innovative instructors, and rigorous course work. Fortune 500 CEOs, New York Times best-selling authors, and Super Bowl champion all proudly claim Baker, the first university in Kansas, as their alma mater. The university is home to four schools: the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Nursing, the School of Education, and the School of Professional and Graduate Studies. Baker offers undergraduate through doctoral programs. Baker University is a premier private university with a tradition of academic excellence and student engagement in a respectful, inviting, and values-based learning community. The faculty provides creative, student-focused learning experiences that challenge students to analyze issues with depth and clarity. Students fully engage in their learning, connect with peers, faculty, and staff, and develop lifelong relationships with diverse people. Graduates realize their potential to become confident, competent contributors to society. Students who transfer from large universities marvel at the number of ways to get involved at Baker. Here, our central midfielders ace exams in the morning, write columns for The Baker Orange in the afternoon, and raise money for children's hospitals with their sorority sisters at night. We have seen it. The Office of Student Life provides endless ways to get involved and make friends early in your college career. Baker first-year students can lead student groups—even start their own—the minute their parents pull out of the parking lot. Who said you had to wait your turn? At Baker University, learning takes place both inside and outside the classroom. With more than 75 student activities and organizations from which to choose, you will have no trouble finding your place, making friends, and creating a memorable college experience. Learn a little bit about Baker through these photos and videos, but check us out on social to see what it is like every day for a Baker Wildcat. Baker strives to create seamless admission processes at each of our four schools through an unwavering commitment to personal attention. At Baker, our enrollment representatives know your financial aid award and your pet's name. Our deans know your career goals and breakfast order. It is different here. Baker University builds achievers, doers, and global citizens, ready to tackle the world. Baker University offers master's and doctoral degree programs at its regional campuses throughout the Kansas City metro, Topeka, and Wichita and online. Since the early 1990s, Baker's School of Professional and Graduate Studies has introduced its community workforce-relevant programs known for their value. The School of Education is home to an impressive roster of faculty members with decades of real-world classroom and administrative experience. Baker University School of Nursing offers both bachelor's and master's programs. Our nurses, nursing educators, and nursing administrators are compassionate, dedicated, and confident professionals who have a tremendous impact on the communities in which they serve. Baker builds its nurses at its partner hospital, Stormont Vail Health, in Topeka, Kansas. Although it is not mandatory, Baker's School of Nursing encourages prospective students to take their prerequisite courses at the College of Arts and Sciences in Baldwin City—that way, students can enjoy two years of the traditional residential campus experience. Our online Master of Science in Nursing program offers two tracks—nursing education and nursing administration—to prepare graduates to shape the next generation of health care professionals. Founded in 1858 as the first university in Kansas, Baker is an institution with a storied past. While standing in the center of our beautiful campus in Baldwin City, a person can do a 360-degree turn and see three buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. Lady Margaret Thatcher dedicated our Osborne Chapel, which was moved brick by brick from Sproxton, England. Abraham Lincoln personally donated to the construction of Parmenter Hall. William Howard Taft, the 27th president of the United States, delivered the first speech on the topic of world peace 100 yards from where our current political scientists study. Given the university's rich tradition of academic excellence and historical significance—and our immaculate campus, which is a registered arboretum and Tree Campus USA award-winner—it is no surprise that George Will once called Baker University a "Midwestern Hidden Gem." Since our founding, Baker has held close ties with the Methodist Episcopal Church, which became the Methodist Church in 1939, the United Methodist Church in 1968, and has retained its affiliation. As one of 196 colleges and universities in the United States with connections to the Church, we seek to continue a tradition of devotion to the Christian faith and academic excellence. A leader known for raising the national and international profiles of educational and nonprofit institutions, Dr. Lynne Murray became the 29th president of Baker University on July 1, 2014. Murray previously served as the vice president for development, international and alumni relations at Washington, D.C.-based Gallaudet University, the world's only university for deaf and hard of hearing people. For more than 20 years, she has worked collaboratively with community organizations, initiating national and global partnerships, and spearheading fundraising efforts. Upon its inception in 1858, the founders of Baker University deemed that the university is governed by an overseeing body of no more than 32 members. Today, the Baker University Board of Trustees remains the university's highest governing body, meeting three times annually to approve university programs, budgets, faculty promotions, and conferment of degrees to graduates.
