"Vasile Alecsandri" the University of Bacau is a crucial constituent part of the Romanian educational system. Its achievements are nationally and internationally acknowledged for the quality of its academic and research activity. "Vasile Alecsandri" University of Bacau is situated in Central Moldavia, in Bacau, the capital of Bacau's county. The town has a population of 134 000 inhabitants and a long history, as it is one of the oldest in Romania. The first documents attesting to the town's existence were issued during the reign of Alexandru cel Bun and date back to 1408. The town is situated at the crossroads of national and international transport corridors that connect Bucharest with the northern part of the country and Moldavia with Transylvania. The University emerged and has developed an organic connection with the region's historical and cultural traditions. In 1961, the Pedagogical Institute was founded. It had three faculties: Humanities, Mathematics, and Natural Sciences. The Faculty of History and Geography and the Faculty of Physical Education was added in 1964 in 1976, the Faculty of Engineering is founded (its first study program was Machine-building Technology). In the same year, the Pedagogical Institute becomes the Institute of Higher Education of Bacau. In 1984, the Institute of Higher Education of Bacau was transformed into a Sub-engineers' Institute, under the guidance and administration of the Polytechnical Institute of Iaşi. In 1985, the study programs Inorganic Chemistry Technology, and, in 1986, Power Networks were transferred from the Polytechnical Institute of Iaşi to the Sub-engineers' Institute of Bacau. The vision of "Vasile Alecsandri," the University of Bacau, participates in creating culture and civilization values in the development of scientific research and their integration in the national and international exchange. "Vasile Alecsandri" the University of Bacau is organized. It operates under the provisions of The Charter of "Vasile Alecsandri" University of Bacau, by the terms of the Constitution of Romania, of the National Education Law no. 1/2011, and of current legislation that controls the educational system and process in Romania, with the observance of the human rights and the International Labour Organization Conventions. The Charter includes the mission and the objectives of the University the autonomy of the University the structure of the University the management of the University the collaboration among the management, the Students' League, and the University Employees' Syndicate international cooperation and association with other educational institutions or organizations the organization of university studies the organization of postgraduate studies scientific research the students of the University the funding and patrimony of the University the human resource of the University organizational structures constituted in the University. "Vasile Alecsandri" the University of Bacau defined its mission by taking into consideration the National Pact for Education, signed on March 5, 2008, by all the political factors and by the Romanian Academy, the Strategy "Education – Research for the Knowledge-based Society," proposed by the Presidency of Romania, concerning the development of education and research in the period 2009-2015, and the National Education Law no. 1/2011. By The Chart, "the mission of "Vasile Alecsandri" the University of Bacau is a didactic mission and one of scientific research it is focused upon regional necessities and favors partnerships with academic and economic entities, both nationally and internationally." The University is comprehensive and regional. It develops bachelor's degree study programs, master's degree study programs, doctoral studies programs, and research activities aimed at meeting the needs in the central part of the North-eastern Region, which needs to be corroborated with those at national and international levels.
