We are storytellers. We tell stories through images, words and sounds, bodies, spaces, pixels and takes, budgets, and technologies. We explore the history, esthetics, and future of audiovisual media. Our stories are motivated by the desire and challenge to move and inspire people and make a difference. We represent a wealth of different stories and artistic forms, genres and formats, specialization, and exchange. Our interdisciplinary work is based on mutual respect. We work together to implement projects. In both theory and practice, we collaborate with people, companies, and institutions. We are active on a regional, national, and global level. We are Germany's first film university bringing scientific and artistic research together. We explore film as a narrative and technological medium, as an artistic and social practice, and as a phenomenon shaping education, entertainment, and our cultural heritage. Our top priority is to deliver high-quality teaching and to support creative people in developing their approach. We provide students with film craft skills and market and industry expertise while promoting artistic and scientific exchange. Offering Bachelor's, Master's, Meisterschuler, and Ph.D. programs, we allow students to earn officially and internationally recognized degrees. As both media and media use change, we reflect upon and sustainably contribute to the process of change. Being aware of the history of Babelsberg as a media city, we advocate free and open societies. We unequivocally oppose discrimination and political extremism. We stand up for equality and support people in different family and living situations. The Film University represents and promotes the freedom of research, teaching, and artistic creation. The film is what unites us. As a place of education, communication, and interaction, Film University represents diversity and opposes discrimination. The school's goal is to offer its members the best possible conditions for developing their creativity, individuality, and personality. Within the scope of its responsibility, the Film University is actively committed to providing an environment free of discrimination and, in consideration of the freedom of art, science, research, and teaching guaranteed by the Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germany, strives to protect the rights of individuals and their boundaries as defined by the law. All university members are required to actively and sensitively contribute to a work and studying environment characterized by tolerance and mutual respect for personal boundaries and in which there is no room for discrimination or violations of the law. Discrimination shall be taken to occur when persons are treated less favorably on the grounds of their protected characteristics. These characteristics form a significant part of their personality, difficult or impossible to change, and social inequalities. What matters in discrimination is the result, not the motive (purpose, thoughtlessness, administrative practice, etc.). With its guidelines for women's advancement, the Film University actively promotes the de facto equal treatment of women and men. The guidelines complement and substantiate this legal obligation. The goal is to achieve equal representation of women and to support women actively. The Film University has passed regulations to increase the proportion of women in fields in which they are underrepresented to 50% and to ensure equal opportunities for all female members of the university. In occupational fields with a high proportion of women and a few career development opportunities, the university strives to remove women's disadvantages. Measures aiming to increase the proportion of women in scientific and artistic positions are based on women's share at the respective preceding level of qualification. Film University is committed to the principle of sustainability. Our common goal as a "learning organization" is to develop structures and processes in a manner that allows for the establishment of a culture of sustainability in learning and teaching, research and transfer, and everyday life on campus. However, our understanding of sustainability encompasses the issues directly associated with the term, i.e., climate protection, eco-friendliness, resource-efficient processes, and socio-cultural aspects such as social and political participation and self-determination and solidarity.
