  1. Averett is an inspiring place to learn, live, and work. Our diverse academic programs are grounded in the liberal arts, offering you an educational experience focused on the future and rooted in timeless values. The learning community at Averett ranges from traditional undergraduates to experienced adults seeking continuing education. Their lives, and the lives they touch, are forever changed due to their experiences here. Averett University is a place with a new vision and enduring values. Our power comes from the fact that, no matter how we move forward– establishing new opportunities for students, creating essential connections with our alumni and friends, and serving this region as a full partner in its success– the heart of Averett remains the same. No matter what we do, our commitment to equipping students for the future, to our liberal arts tradition, and to the sense of family and belonging we share remains paramount. Averett University prepares students to serve and lead as catalysts for positive change. Averett fulfills this mission by educating students from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and nations through liberal arts-based undergraduate and graduate programs in a personal, collegial, interdisciplinary environment. Averett University will be a premier student-centered university renowned for innovative teaching and engaged learning. At Averett, we celebrate the diversity of people and ideas. We are a community of talented and dedicated individuals who share a commitment to student success. At Averett, first-year students do amazing things. Aeronautics majors fly in their first semester. Equestrian Studies majors ride in their first week. Theatre majors star in major productions. Sports Science and Athletic Training majors intern with NFL teams. Biology majors work alongside faculty on cutting-edge research. Student-athletes start on varsity teams. Thanks to their grounding in the liberal arts, Averett students develop a broad set of essential skills it takes to succeed in any career. Our students are also accepted into graduate programs at the nation’s leading institutions, including Boston University, Columbia University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the University of Chicago. Whatever major you choose, you will be equipped to contribute to society and the world of work. And if you cannot decide on a major just yet, do not worry. You have four semesters to explore your options. Heading to college—or returning to college—can be a significant adjustment. Fortunately, our Academic Support staff is standing by to help you adapt to achieve your big dreams. Our tutoring services are certified by the College Reading and Learning Association’s (CRLA) International Tutor Training Program. Averett is one of only 820 institutions around the world to achieve this distinction. We offer regular small-group meetings in the Galesi Family Student Success Center, and there is no need to book an appointment. Just show up during the meeting time for your preferred subject. Contact us to find out the current tutoring schedule. Students with documented special needs have rights. You can read more about your rights here or schedule an appointment to talk to the Coordinator of Academic Support in person. If you suspect you have a learning disability, we can help arrange to test. Contact us to make an appointment to discuss your situation. The division of student life at Averett University is committed to providing an inclusive environment that enables each student to develop and enhance personal health and wellbeing, leadership skills, social responsibility, critical thinking, and a spirit of service. Students will be exposed to programs and initiatives designed to promote health and wellbeing, including health clinics, wellness counseling, health education, recreational activities, and spiritual exploration where appropriate. Students will have opportunities to participate in health and wellness fairs. Health and wellness educational materials and information will be displayed and distributed in key locations on campus. Students will participate in a group learning experience centered around the topic of emotional wellbeing and resilience. Ski trips and movie nights on the lawn. Comedians and leadership conferences. Easter egg hunts and bowling nights.Iron Chef in Jut’s Café and late-night breakfasts. Our Campus Activities Board works non-stop to keep the events coming all year long. But you will also find clubs and organizations for every interest – we have even got a competitive-flying team. The best thing about it? You can be a vital part of any group or event you choose starting the moment you arrive. Many of our activities are connected with national and international groups, meaning you have additional scope for expanding your network of friends. From honor societies to spiritual life groups, there are plenty of ways for you to get involved. The Office of Spiritual Life exists as an extension of one of Averett’s core institutional values, to “embrace Averett’s Judeo-Christian heritage, by honoring the search for truth and spiritual formation.” Headed by our University Chaplain, the Office of Spiritual Life serves as a resource for spiritual encouragement and challenging growth for all our students, regardless of faith background and perspective. Throughout the year, we offer a variety of clubs and programs for worship, study, reflection, service, and fellowship, along with providing the University Chaplain as a resource for faith counseling and support.
